What 1 Peter 1:25 means
“But the word of the Lord abideth for ever.” Unlike flesh and its fading glory, God’s word endures unaltered and undefeated. Peter adds, “this is the word of good tidings which was preached unto you,” identifying the abiding word with the gospel they received. Their new birth, hope, and call to love are grounded in a message that cannot be extinguished by time, trial, or opposition. This assurance steadies the church: what created them will preserve them. Clinging to the preached gospel, believers can face suffering and pursue holiness and love, confident that God’s enduring word will accomplish his purposes.

Context
Concluding the chapter, verse 25 seals the argument of verses 22–24 and echoes earlier themes of the living, abiding word (v. 23) and enduring hope (vv. 3–5). It ties the believers’ present life to the proclaimed gospel, preparing for the next section’s call to crave the word and live as a distinct, built-up people. The final note is confidence in God’s enduring revelation.
v.24For, All flesh is as grass, And all the glory thereof as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower falleth:
