1And in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam son of Nebat, reigned hath Abijam over Judah;
1Now in the eighteenth year of the reign of Jeroboam, the son of Nabat, Abiam reigned over Juda.
1Now in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, Abijam became king over Judah.
1And in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam the son of Nebat began Abijam to reign over Judah.
2three years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother <FI>is<Fi> Maachah daughter of Abishalom;
2He reigned three years in Jerusalem: the name of his mother was Maacha, the daughter of Abessalom.
2For three years he was king in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Maacah, the daughter of Abishalom.
2He reigned three years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Maachah, a daughter of Abishalom.
3and he walketh in all the sins of his father, that he did before him, and his heart hath not been perfect with Jehovah his God, as the heart of David his father;
3And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him: and his heart was not perfect with the Lord his God, as was the heart of David, his father.
3And he did the same sins which his father had done before him: his heart was not completely true to the Lord his God, like the heart of David his father.
3And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him; and his heart was not perfect with Jehovah hisGod, as the heart of David his father.
4but for David's sake hath Jehovah his God given to him a lamp in Jerusalem, to raise up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem,
4But for David's sake the Lord his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem:
4But because of David, the Lord gave him a light in Jerusalem, making his sons king after him, so that Jerusalem might be safe;
4But for David's sake Jehovah hisGod gave him a lamp in Jerusalem, setting up his son after him, and establishing Jerusalem;
5in that David did that which <FI>is<Fi> right in the eyes of Jehovah, and turned not aside from all that He commanded him all days of his life--only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite;
5Because David had done that which was right in the eyes of the Lord, and had not turned aside from any thing that he commanded him, all the days of his life, except the matter of Urias, the Hethite.
5Because David did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, and never in all his life went against his orders, but only in the question of Uriah the Hittite.
5because David did that which was right in the sight of Jehovah, and turned not aside from anything that he commanded him all the days of his life, except in the matter of Urijah the Hittite.
6and war hath been between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life.
6But there was war between Roboam and Jeroboam all the time of his life.
6...
6And there had been war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life.
7And the rest of the matters of Abijam, and all that he did, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Judah? And war hath been between Abijam and Jeroboam;
7And the rest of the words of Abiam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Juda? And there was war between Abiam and Jeroboam.
7Now the rest of the acts of Abijam, and all he did, are they not recorded in the book of the history of the kings of Judah? And there was war between Abijam and Jeroboam.
7And the rest of the acts of Abijam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? And there was war between Abijam and Jeroboam.
8and Abijam lieth with his fathers, and they bury him in the city of David, and reign doth Asa his son in his stead.
8And Abiam slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa, his son, reigned in his stead.
8Then Abijam went to rest with his fathers, and they put him into the earth in the town of David: and Asa his son became king in his place.
8And Abijam slept with his fathers; and they buried him in the city of David. And Asa his son reigned in his stead.
9And in the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel reigned hath Asa over Judah,
9So in the twentieth year of Jeroboam, king of Israel, reigned Asa, king of Juda,
9In the twentieth year that Jeroboam was king of Israel, Asa became king over Judah.
9And in the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa began to reign over Judah;
10and forty and one years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother <FI>is<Fi> Maachah daughter of Abishalom.
10And he reigned one and forty years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacha, the daughter of Abessalom.
10And he was king for forty-one years in Jerusalem; his mother's name was Maacah, the daughter of Abishalom.
10and he reigned forty-one years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Maachah, daughter of Abishalom.
11And Asa doth that which <FI>is<Fi> right in the eyes of Jehovah, like David his father,
11And Asa did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, as did David, his father:
11Asa did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as David his father did.
11And Asa did what was right in the sight of Jehovah, as David his father.
12and removeth the whoremongers out of the land, and turneth aside all the idols that his fathers made;
12And he took away the effeminate out of the land, and removed all the filth of the idols, which his fathers had made.
12Those used for sex purposes in the worship of the gods he sent out of the country, and he took away all the images which his fathers had made.
12And he put away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his father had made.
13and also Maachah his mother--he turneth her aside from being mistress, in that she made a horrible thing for a shrine, and Asa cutteth down her horrible thing, and burneth <FI>it<Fi> by the brook Kidron;
13Moreover, he also removed his mother, Maacha, from being the princess in the sacrifices of Priapus, and in the grove which she had consecrated to him: and he destroyed her den, and broke in pieces the filthy idol, and burnt it by the torrent Cedron:
13And he would not let Maacah his mother be queen, because she had made a disgusting image for Asherah; and Asa had the image cut down and burned by the stream Kidron.
13And also Maachah his mother he removed from being queen, because she had made an idol for the Asherah; and Asa cut down her idol, and burned it in the valley of Kidron.
14and the high places have not turned aside; only, the heart of Asa hath been perfect with Jehovah all his days,
14But the high places he did not take away. Nevertheless, the heart of Asa was perfect with the Lord all his days:
14The high places, however, were not taken away: but still the heart of Asa was true to the Lord all his life.
14But the high places were not removed; only, Asa's heart was perfect with Jehovah all his days.
15and he bringeth in the sanctified things of his father, and his own sanctified things, to the house of Jehovah, silver, and gold, and vessels.
15And he brought in the things which his father had dedicated, and he had vowed, into the house of the Lord, silver and gold, and vessels.
15He took into the house of the Lord all the things which his father had made holy, and those which he himself had made holy, silver and gold and vessels.
15And he brought into the house of Jehovah the things which his father had dedicated, and the things which he himself had dedicated, silver and gold and vessels.
16And war hath been between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days,
16And there was war between Asa, and Baasa, king of Israel, all their days.
16Now there was war between Asa and Baasha, king of Israel, all their days.
16And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days.
17and Baasha king of Israel goeth up against Judah, and buildeth Ramah, not to permit any one going out and coming in to Asa king of Judah.
17And Baasa, king of Israel, went up against Juda, and built Rama, that no man might go out or come in of the side of Asa, king of Juda.
17And Baasha, king of Israel, went up against Judah, building Ramah, so that no one was able to go out or in to Asa, king of Judah.
17And Baasha king of Israel came up against Judah, and built Ramah, in order to let none go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.
18And Asa taketh all the silver and the gold that are left in the treasures of the house of Jehovah, and the treasures of the house of the king, and giveth them into the hand of his servants, and king Asa sendeth them unto Ben-Hadad, son of Tabrimmon, son of Hezion king of Aram, who is dwelling in Damascus, saying,
18Then Asa took all the silver and gold that remained in the treasures of the house of the Lord, and in the treasures of the king's house, and delivered it into the hands of his servants: and sent them to Benadad, son of Tabremon, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, who dwelt in Damascus, saying:
18Then Asa took all the silver and gold which was still stored in the Lord's house, and in the king's house, and sent them, in the care of his servants, to Ben-hadad, son of Tabrimmon, son of Rezon, king of Aram, at Damascus, saying,
18And Asa took all the silver and the gold that were left in the treasures of the house of Jehovah, and in the treasures of the king's house, and gave them into the hand of his servants; and king Asa sent them to Ben-Hadad, the son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, who dwelt at Damascus, saying,
19`A covenant <FI>is<Fi> between me and thee, between my father and thy father; lo, I have sent to thee a reward of silver and gold; go, break thy covenant with Baasha king of Israel, and he goeth up from off me.'
19There is a league between me and thee, and between my father and thy father: therefore I have sent thee presents of silver and gold: and I desire thee to come, and break thy league with Baasa, king of Israel, that he may depart from me.
19Let there be an agreement between me and you as there was between my father and your father: see, I have sent you an offering of silver and gold; go and put an end to your agreement with Baasha, king of Israel, so that he may give up attacking me.
19There is a league between me and thee, [as] between my father and thy father; behold, I send thee a present of silver and gold: go, break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.
20And Ben-Hadad hearkeneth unto king Asa, and sendeth the heads of the forces that he hath against cities of Israel, and smiteth Ijon, and Dan, and Abel-Beth-Maachah, and all Chinneroth, besides all the land of Naphtali;
20Benadad, hearkening to king Asa, sent the captains of his army against the cities of Israel, and they smote Ahion, and Dan, and Abeldomum Maacha, and all Cenneroth; that is all the land of Nephthali.
20So Ben-hadad did as King Asa said, and sent the captains of his armies against the towns of Israel, attacking Ijon and Dan and Abel-beth-maacah, and all Chinneroth as far as all the land of Naphtali.
20And Ben-Hadad hearkened to king Asa, and sent the captains of his forces against the cities of Israel, and smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abel-Beth-Maachah, and all Kinneroth, with all the land of Naphtali.
21and it cometh to pass at Baasha's hearing, that he ceaseth from building Ramah, and dwelleth in Tirzah.
21And when Baasa had heard this, he left off building Rama, and returned into Thersa.
21And Baasha, hearing of it, put a stop to the building of Ramah, and was living in Tirzah.
21And it came to pass when Baasha heard of it, that he left off building Ramah, and dwelt in Tirzah.
22And king Asa hath summoned all Judah--there is none exempt--and they lift up the stones of Ramah, and its wood, that Baasha hath built, and king Asa buildeth with them Geba of Benjamin, and Mizpah.
22But king Asa sent word into all Juda, saying: Let no man be excused: and they took away the stones from Rama, and the timber thereof, wherewith Baasa had been building, and with them king Asa built Gabaa of Benjamin, and Maspha.
22Then King Asa got all Judah together, making every man come; and they took away the stones and the wood with which Baasha was building Ramah, and King Asa made use of them for building Geba in the land of Benjamin, and Mizpah.
22And king Asa called together all Judah: none was exempted; and they carried away the stones and the timber from Ramah, with which Baasha had been building; and king Asa built with them Geba of Benjamin, and Mizpah.
23And the rest of all the matters of Asa, and all his might, and all that he did, and the cities that he built, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Judah? Only, at the time of his old age he was diseased in his feet;
23But the rest of all the acts of Asa, and all his strength, and all that he did, and the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Juda? But in the time of his old age he was diseased in his feet.
23Now the rest of the acts of Asa, and his power, and all he did, and the towns of which he was the builder, are they not recorded in the book of the history of the kings of Judah? But when he was old he had a disease of the feet.
23And the rest of all the acts of Asa, and all his might, and all that he did, and the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? Only, in the time of his old age he was diseased in his feet.
24and Asa lieth with his fathers, and is buried with his fathers in the city of David his father, and Jehoshaphat his son reigneth in his stead.
24And he slept with his fathers, and was buried with them in the city of David, his father. And Josaphat, his son, reigned in his place.
24So Asa went to rest with his fathers and was put into the earth in the town of David his father: and Jehoshaphat his son became king in his place.
24And Asa slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father. And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead.
25And Nadab son of Jeroboam hath reigned over Israel, in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and he reigneth over Israel two years,
25But Nadab, the son of Jeroboam, reigned over Israel the second year of Asa, king of Juda: and he reigned over Israel two years.
25Nadab, the son of Jeroboam, became king over Israel in the second year that Asa was king of Judah; and he was king of Israel for two years.
25And Nadab the son of Jeroboam began to reign over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah; and he reigned over Israel two years.
26and doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and goeth in the way of his father, and in his sin that he made Israel to sin.
26And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the ways of his father, and in his sins, wherewith he made Israel to sin.
26He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, copying the evil ways of his father, and the sin which he did and made Israel do.
26And he did evil in the sight of Jehovah, and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin with which he made Israel sin.
27And conspire against him doth Baasha son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, and Baasha smiteth him in Gibbethon, which <FI>is<Fi> to the Philistines--and Nadab and all Israel are laying siege against Gibbethon--
27And Baasa, the son of Ahias, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him, and slew him in Gebbethon, which is a city of the Philistines: for Nadab and all Israel besieged Gebbethon.
27And Baasha, the son of Ahijah, of the family of Issachar, made a secret design against him, attacking him at Gibbethon, a town of the Philistines; for Nadab and the armies of Israel were making war on Gibbethon.
27And Baasha the son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him; and Baasha smote him at Gibbethon, which [belonged] to the Philistines, when Nadab and all Israel were besieging Gibbethon.
28yea, Baasha putteth him to death in the third year of Asa king of Judah, and reigneth in his stead.
28So Baasa slew him in the third year of Asa, king of Juda, and reigned in his place.
28In the third year of the rule of Asa, king of Judah, Baasha put him to death, and became king in his place.
28And Baasha slew him in the third year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his stead.
29And it cometh to pass, at his reigning, he hath smitten the whole house of Jeroboam, he hath not left any breathing to Jeroboam till his destroying him, according to the word of Jehovah, that He spake by the hand of His servant Ahijah the Shilonite,
29And when he was king, he cut off all the house of Jeroboam: he left not so much as one soul of his seed, till he had utterly destroyed him, according to the word of the Lord, which he had spoken in the hand of Ahias, the Silonite:
29And straight away when he became king, he sent destruction on all the offspring of Jeroboam; there was not one living person of all the family of Jeroboam whom he did not put to death, so the word of the Lord, which he said by his servant Ahijah the Shilonite, came about;
29And it came to pass when he was king, he smote all the house of Jeroboam; he left to Jeroboam none that breathed; until he had destroyed him, according to the word of Jehovah which he spoke by his servant Ahijah the Shilonite,
30because of the sins of Jeroboam that he sinned, and that he caused Israel to sin, by his provocation with which he provoked to anger Jehovah, God of Israel.
30Because of the sin of Jeroboam, which he had sinned, and wherewith he had made Israel to sin, and for the offence wherewith he provoked the Lord, the God of Israel.
30Because of the sins which Jeroboam did and made Israel do, moving the Lord, the God of Israel, to wrath.
30because of the sins of Jeroboam which he sinned, and wherewith he made Israel to sin; by his provocation with which he provoked Jehovah theGod of Israel to anger.
31And the rest of the matters of Nadab, and all that he did, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?
31But the rest of the acts of Nadab, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?
31Now the rest of the acts of Nadab, and all he did, are they not recorded in the book of the history of the kings of Israel?
31And the rest of the acts of Nadab, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
32And war hath been between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days.
32And there was war between Asa and Baasa, the king of Israel, all their days.
32And there was war between Asa and Baasha, king of Israel, all their days.
32And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days.
33In the third year of Asa king of Judah reigned hath Baasha son of Ahijah over all Israel in Tirzah, twenty and four years,
33In the third year of Asa, king of Juda, Baasa, the son of Ahias, reigned over all Israel, in Thersa, four and twenty years.
33In the third year of the rule of Asa, king of Judah, Baasha, the son of Ahijah, became king over all Israel in Tirzah, and was king for twenty-four years.
33In the third year of Asa king of Judah began Baasha the son of Ahijah to reign over all Israel in Tirzah, for twenty-four years.
34and he doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and walketh in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin that he caused Israel to sin.
34And he did evil before the Lord, and walked in the ways of Jeroboam, and in his sins, wherewith he made Israel to sin.
34He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, copying the evil ways of Jeroboam and the sin which he made Israel do.
34And he did evil in the sight of Jehovah, and walked in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin where with he made Israel to sin.
