1Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ, is born of God. And every one that loveth him who begot, loveth him also who is born of him.
1Every one that believes that Jesus is the Christ is begotten ofGod; and every one that loves him that has begotten loves also him that is begotten of him.
2In this we know that we love the children of God: when we love God and keep his commandments.
2Hereby know we that we love the children ofGod, when we loveGod and keep his commandments.
3For this is the charity of God: That we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not heavy.
3For this is the love ofGod, that we keep his commandments; and his commandments are not grievous.
4For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world. And this is the victory which overcameth the world: Our faith.
4For all that has been begotten ofGod gets the victory over the world; and this is the victory which has gotten the victory over the world, our faith.
5Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
5Who is he that gets the victory over the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son ofGod?
6This is he that came by water and blood, Jesus Christ: not by water only but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit which testifieth that Christ is the truth.
6This is he that came by water and blood, Jesus [the] Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that bears witness, for the Spirit is the truth.
7And there are Three who give testimony in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost. And these three are one.
7For they that bear witness are three:
8And there are three that give testimony on earth: the spirit and the water and the blood. And these three are one.
8the Spirit, and the water, and the blood; and the three agree in one.
9If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater. For this is the testimony of God, which is greater, because he hath testified of his Son.
9If we receive the witness of men, the witness ofGod is greater. For this is the witness ofGod [which] he has witnessed concerning his Son.
10He that believeth in the Son of God hath the testimony of God in himself. He that believeth not the Son maketh him a liar: because he believeth not in the testimony which God hath testified of his Son.
10He that believes on the Son ofGod has the witness in himself; he that does not believeGod has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the witness whichGod has witnessed concerning his Son.
11And this is the testimony that God hath given to us eternal life. And this life is in his Son.
11And this is the witness, thatGod has given to us eternal life; and this life is in his Son.
12He that hath the Son hath life. He that hath not the Son hath not life.
12He that has the Son has life: he that has not the Son ofGod has not life.
13These things I write to you that you may know that you have eternal life: you who believe in the name of the Son of God.
13These things have I written to you that ye may know that ye have eternal life who believe on the name of the Son ofGod.
14And this is the confidence which we have towards him: That, whatsoever we shall ask according to his will, he heareth us.
14And this is the boldness which we have towards him, that if we ask him anything according to his will he hears us.
15And we know that he heareth us whatsoever we ask: we know that we have the petitions which we request of him.
15And if we know that he hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him.
16He that knoweth his brother to sin a sin which is not to death, let him ask: and life shall be given to him who sinneth not to death. There is a sin unto death. For that I say not that any man ask.
16If any one see his brother sinning a sin not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life, for those that do not sin unto death. There is a sin to death: I do not say of that that he should make a request.
17All iniquity is sin. And there is a sin unto death.
17Every unrighteousness is sin; and there is a sin not to death.
18We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not: but the generation of God preserveth him and the wicked one toucheth him not.
18We know that every one begotten ofGod does not sin, but he that has been begotten ofGod keeps himself, and the wicked [one] does not touch him.
19We know that we are of God and the whole world is seated in wickedness.
19We know that we are ofGod, and the whole world lies in the wicked [one].
20And we know that the Son of God is come. And he hath given us understanding that we may know the true God and may be in his true Son. This is the true God and life eternal.
20And we know that the Son ofGod has come, and has given us an understanding that we should know him that [is] true; and we are in him that [is] true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the trueGod and eternal life.
