1 Chronicles 4

1The sons of Juda: Phares, Hesron, and Charmi and Hur, and Sobal.

1Sons of Judah: Pharez, Hezron, and Carmi, and Hur, and Shobal.

2And Raia the son of Sobal begot Jahath, of whom were born Ahumai, and Laad. These are the families of Sarathi.

2And Reaiah son of Shobal begat Jahath, and Jahath begat Ahumai and Lahad; these <FI>are<Fi> families of the Zorathite.

3And this is the posterity of Etam: Jezrahel, and Jesema, And Jedebos: and the name of their sister was Asalelphuni.

3And these <FI>are<Fi> of the father of Etam: Jezreel, and Ishma, and Idbash; and the name of their sister <FI>is<Fi> Hazzelelponi,

4And Phanuel the father of Gedor, and Ezar the father of Hosa, these are the sons of Hur the firstborn of Ephratha the father of Bethlehem.

4and Penuel <FI>is<Fi> father of Gedor, and Ezer father of Hushah. These <FI>are<Fi> sons of Hur, first-born of Ephratah, father of Beth-Lehem.

5And Assur the father of Thecua had two wives, Halaa and Naara:

5And to Ashhur father of Tekoa were two wives, Helah and Naarah;

6And Naara bore him Ozam, and Hepher, and Themani, and Ahasthari: these are the sons of Naara.

6and Naarah beareth to him Ahuzzam, and Hepher, and Temeni, and Haahashtari: these <FI>are<Fi> sons of Naarah.

7And the sons of Halaa, Sereth, Isaar, and Ethnan.

7And sons of Helah: Zereth, and Zohar, and Ethnan.

8And Cos begot Anob, and Soboba, and the kindred of Aharehel the son of Arum.

8And Coz begat Anub, and Zobebah, and the families of Aharhel son of Harum.

9And Jabes was more honourable than any of his brethren, and his mother called his name Jabes, saying: Because I bore him with sorrow.

9And Jabez is honoured above his brethren, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, `Because I have brought forth with grief.'

10And Jabes called upon the God of Israel, saying: If blessing thou wilt bless me, and wilt enlarge my borders, and thy hand be with me, and thou save me from being oppressed by evil. And God granted him the things he prayed for.

10And Jabez calleth to the God of Israel, saying, `If blessing Thou dost bless me, then Thou hast made great my border, and Thy hand hath been with me, and Thou hast kept <FI>me<Fi> from evil--not to grieve me;' and God bringeth in that which he asked.

11And Caleb the brother of Sua begot Mahir, who was the father of Esthon.

11And Chelub brother of Shuah begat Mehir; he <FI>is<Fi> father of Eshton.

12And Esthon begot Bethrapha, and Phesse, and Tehinna father of the city of Naas: these are the men of Recha.

12And Eshton begat Beth-Rapha, and Paseah, and Tehinnah father of Ir-Nahash; these <FI>are<Fi> men of Rechah.

13And the sons of Cenez were Othoniel, and Saraia. And the sons of Othoniel, Hathath, and Maonathi.

13And sons of Kenaz: Othniel, and Seraiah; and sons of Othniel: Hathath.

14Maonathi begot Ophra, and Saraia begot Joab the father of the Valley of artificers: for artificers were there.

14And Meonothai begat Ophrah, and Seraiah begat Joab father of the valley of artificers, for they were artificers.

15And the sons of Caleb the son of Jephone, were Hir, and Ela, and Naham. And the sons of Ela: Cenez.

15And sons of Caleb son of Jephunneh: Iru, Elah, and Naam; and sons of Elah, even Kenaz.

16The sons also of Jaleleel: Ziph, and Zipha, Thiria and Asrael.

16And sons of Jehaleleel: Ziph and Ziphah, Tiria, and Asareel.

17And the sons of Esra, Jether, and Mered, and Epher, and Jalon, and he begot Mariam, and Sammai, and Jesba the father of Esthamo.

17And sons of Ezra <FI>are<Fi> Jether, and Mered, and Epher, and Jalon: and she beareth Miriam, and Shammai, and Ishbah father of Eshtemoa.

18And his wife Judaia, bore Jared the father of Gedor, and Heber the father of Socho, and Icuthiel the father of Zanoe. And these are the sons of Bethia the daughter of Pharao, whom Mered took to wife.

18And his wife Jehudijah bare Jered father of Gedor, and Heber father of Socho, and Jekuthiel father of Zanoah. And these <FI>are<Fi> sons of Bithiah daughter of Pharaoh, whom Mered took,

19And the sons of his wife Odaia the sister of Naham the father of Celia, Garmi, and Esthamo, who was of Machathi.

19and sons of the wife of Hodiah sister of Nahom: Abi-Keilah the Garmite, and Eshtemoa the Maachathite.

20The sons also of Simon, Amnon, and Rinna the son of Hanan, and Thilon. And the sons of Jesi Zoheth, and Benzoheth.

20And sons of Shimon <FI>are<Fi> Amnon, and Rinnah, Ben-Hanon, and Tilon; and sons of Ishi: Zoheth, and Ben-Zoheth.

21The sons of Sela the son of Juda: Her the father of Lecha, and Laada the father of Maresa, and the families of the house of them that wrought fine linen in the House of oath.

21Sons of Shelah son of Judah: Er father of Lecah, and Laadah father of Mareshah, and the families of the house of the service of fine linen, of the house of Ashbea;

22And he that made the sun to stand, and the men of Lying, and Secure, and Burning, who were princes in Moab, and who returned into Lahem. Now these are things of old.

22and Jokim, and the men of Chozeba, and Joash, and Saraph, who ruled over Moab and Jashubi-Lehem; and these things <FI>are<Fi> ancient.

23These are the potters, and they dwelt in Plantations, and Hedges, with the king for his works, and they abode there.

23They <FI>are<Fi> the potters and inhabitants of Netaim and Gedera; with the king in his work they dwelt there.

24The sons of Simeon: Namuel and Jamin, Jarib, Zara, Saul:

24Sons of Simeon: Nemuel, and Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, Shaul;

25Sellum his son, Mapsam his son, Masma his son.

25Shallum his son, Mibsam his son, Mishma his son.

26The sons of Masma: Hamuel his son, Zachur his son, Semei his son.

26And sons of Mishma: Hammuel his son, Zacchur his son, Shimei his son.

27The sons of Semei were sixteen, and six daughters: but his brethren had not many sons, and the whole kindred could not reach to the sum of the children of Juda.

27And to Shimei <FI>are<Fi> sixteen sons and six daughters, and to his brethren there are not many sons, and none of their families have multiplied as much as the sons of Judah.

28And they dwelt in Bersabee, and Molada, and Hasarsuhal,

28And they dwell in Beer-Sheba, and Moladah, and Hazar-Shaul,

29And in Bala, and in Asom, and in Tholad,

29and in Bilhah, and in Ezem, and in Tolad,

30And in Bathuel, and in Horma, and in Siceleg,

30and in Bethuel, and in Hormah, and in Ziklag,

31And in Bethmarchaboth, and in Hasarsusim, and in Bethberai, and in Saarim. These were their cities unto the reign of David.

31and in Beth-Marcaboth, and in Hazar-Susim, and in Beth-Birei, and in Shaarim; these <FI>are<Fi> their cities till the reigning of David.

32Their towns also were Etam, and Aen, Remmon, and Thochen, and Asan, five cities.

32And their villages <FI>are<Fi> Etam, and Ain, Rimmon, and Tochen, and Ashan, five cities,

33And all their villages round about these cities as far as Baal. This was their habitation, and the distribution of their dwellings.

33and all their villages that <FI>are<Fi> round about these cities unto Baal; these <FI>are<Fi> their dwellings, and they have their genealogy:

34And Mosabab and Jemlech, and Josaphat, the son of Amasias,

34even Meshobab, and Jamlech, and Joshah son of Amaziah,

35And Joel, and Jehu the son of Josabia the son of Saraia, the son of Asiel,

35and Joel, and Jehu son of Josibiah, son of Seraiah, son of Asiel,

36And Elioenai, and Jacoba, and Isuhaia, and Asaia, and Adiel, and Ismiel, and Banaia,

36and Elioenai, and Jaakobah, and Jeshohaiah, and Asaiah, and Adiel, and Jesimiel, and Benaiah,

37Ziza also the son of Sephei the son of Allon the son of Idaia the son of Semri the son of Samaia.

37and Ziza son of Shiphi, son of Allon, son of Jedaiah, son of Shimri, son of Shemaiah.

38These were named princes in their kindreds, and in the houses of their families were multiplied exceedingly.

38These who are coming in by name <FI>are<Fi> princes in their families, and the house of their fathers have broken forth into a multitude;

39And they went forth to enter into Gador as far as to the east side of the valley, to seek pastures for their flocks.

39and they go to the entrance of Gedor, unto the east of the valley, to seek pasture for their flock,

40And they found fat pastures, and very good, and a country spacious, and quiet, and fruitful, in which some of the race of Cham had dwelt before.

40and they find pasture, fat and good, and the land broad of sides, and quiet, and safe, for of Ham are those dwelling there before.

41And these whose names are written above, came in the days of Ezechias king of Juda: and they beat down their tents, and slew the inhabitants that were found there, and utterly destroyed them unto this day: and they dwelt in their place, because they found there fat pastures.

41And these who are written by name come in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and smite their tents, and the habitations that have been found there, and devote them to destruction unto this day, and dwell in their stead, because pasture for their flock <FI>is<Fi> there.

42Some also of the children of Simeon, five hundred men, went into mount Seir, having for their captains Phaltias and Naaria and Raphaia and Oziel the sons of Jesi:

42And of them, of the sons of Simeon, there have gone to mount Seir, five hundred men, and Pelatiah, and Neariah, and Rephaiah, and Uzziel, sons of Ishi, at their head,

43And they slew the remnant of the Amalecites, who had been able to escape, and they dwelt there in their stead unto this day.

43and they smite the remnant of those escaped of Amalek, and dwell there unto this day.
