1In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness.

1On that day, a fountain will be opened for the family of David and the people of Jerusalem to wash away their sin and spiritual impurity.

2And it shall come to pass in that day, saith Jehovah of hosts, that I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they shall no more be remembered; and also I will cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land.

2On that day, says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies, I will erase the names of the idols from the land so they will never be remembered again. I will also remove the false prophets and the spirit of impurity from the land.

3And it shall come to pass that, when any shall yet prophesy, then his father and his mother that begat him shall say unto him, Thou shalt not live; for thou speakest lies in the name of Jehovah; and his father and his mother that begat him shall thrust him through when he prophesieth.

3If anyone continues to prophesy falsely, his own father and mother will say to him, 'You must die, because you are telling lies in the name of the LORD.' Then his own parents will stab him while he is prophesying.

4And it shall come to pass in that day, that the prophets shall be ashamed every one of his vision, when he prophesieth; neither shall they wear a hairy mantle to deceive:

4On that day, every prophet will be ashamed of his vision when he tries to prophesy. They will no longer wear the traditional hair cloak to trick people into believing they are prophets.

5but he shall say, I am no prophet, I am a tiller of the ground; for I have been made a bondman from my youth.

5Instead, each will say, 'I am not a prophet. I am a farmer. I have worked the soil since I was young.'

6And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds between thine arms? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.

6And if someone asks him, 'What are these wounds on your chest?' he will answer, 'These are wounds I received at the house of my friends.'

7Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith Jehovah of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered; and I will turn my hand upon the little ones.

7Wake up, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man who is close to me, says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies. Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered; I will turn my hand against even the little ones.

8And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith Jehovah, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.

8In the whole land, says the LORD, two-thirds of the people will be cut off and die, but one-third will be left alive.

9And I will bring the third part into the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried. They shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people; and they shall say, Jehovah is my God.

9I will bring that third into the fire. I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call on my name, and I will answer them. I will say, 'These are my people,' and they will say, 'The LORD is my God.'
