What Revelation 19:1 means

John hears a thunderous outcry from a countless host in heaven. Their single word of praise, “Hallelujah,” declares that God alone deserves credit for rescuing, displaying glory, and exercising might. Salvation is not achieved by human strength; glory is not shared with rival powers; power does not rest in empires. The worship answers the question raised by evil’s apparent success: God’s rule has never been in doubt. The multitude recognizes that everything just described—the fall of the proud world system—reveals who God is. Praise rises not from sentiment but from what God has actually done, and it shifts the reader’s gaze from earth’s chaos to heaven’s certainty.

Context

“After these things” links this scene with the judgment of the great harlot in the previous visions. Heaven now responds to Babylon’s collapse with loud, corporate praise. Verse 1 opens a series of antiphonal acclamations that build in intensity. The chorus will soon specify why God is praised (verse 2), repeat the Hallelujah (verse 3), and draw in the closest attendants of the throne (verse 4). This worship scene prepares for a second emphasis: the joyful announcement of the marriage of the Lamb (verses 7–9), before the vision shifts to the Rider on the white horse (verse 11).

v.1This passage

v.2for true and righteous are his judgments; for he hath judged the great harlot, her that corrupted the earth with her fornication, and he hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.
