1A prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, thou hast been our refuge from generation to generation.
1 My song will be of the mercies of the Lord for ever: with my mouth will I make his faith clear to all generations.
1An instruction, by Ethan the Ezrahite. Of the kind acts of Jehovah, to the age I sing, To all generations I make known Thy faithfulness with my mouth,
2Before the mountains were made, or the earth and the world was formed; from eternity and to eternity thou art God.
2For you have said, Mercy will be made strong for ever; my faith will be unchanging in the heavens.
2For I said, `To the age is kindness built, The heavens! Thou dost establish Thy faithfulness in them.'
3Turn not man away to be brought low: and thou hast said: Be converted, O ye sons of men.
3I have made an agreement with the man of my selection, I have made an oath to David my servant;
3I have made a covenant for My chosen, I have sworn to David My servant:
4For a thousand years in thy sight are as yesterday, which is past. And as a watch in the night,
4I will make your seed go on for ever, your kingdom will be strong through all generations. (Selah.)
4`Even to the age do I establish thy seed, And have built to generation and generation thy throne. Selah.
5Things that are counted nothing, shall their years be.
5In heaven let them give praise for your wonders, O Lord; and your unchanging faith among the saints.
5and the heavens confess Thy wonders, O Jehovah, Thy faithfulness also <FI>is<Fi> in an assembly of holy ones.
6In the morning man shall grow up like grass; in the morning he shall flourish and pass away: in the evening he shall fall, grow dry, and wither.
6For who is there in the heavens in comparison with the Lord? who is like the Lord among the sons of the gods?
6For who in the sky, Compareth himself to Jehovah? Is like to Jehovah among sons of the mighty?
7For in thy wrath we have fainted away: and are troubled in thy indignation.
7God is greatly to be feared among the saints, and to be honoured over all those who are about him.
7God is very terrible, In the secret counsel of His holy ones, And fearful over all surrounding Him.
8Thou hast set our iniquities before thy eyes: our life in the light of thy countenance.
8O Lord God of armies, who is strong like you, O Jah? and your unchanging faith is round about you.
8O Jehovah, God of Hosts, Who <FI>is<Fi> like Thee--a strong Jah? And Thy faithfulness <FI>is<Fi> round about Thee.
9For all our days are spent; and in thy wrath we have fainted away. Our years shall be considered as a spider:
9You have rule over the sea in storm; when its waves are troubled, you make them calm.
9Thou <FI>art<Fi> ruler over the pride of the sea, In the lifting up of its billows Thou dost restrain them.
10The days of our years in them are threescore and ten years. But if in the strong they be fourscore years: and what is more of them is labour and sorrow. For mildness is come upon us: and we shall be corrected.
10Rahab was crushed by you like one wounded to death; with your strong arm you put to flight all your haters.
10Thou hast bruised Rahab, as one wounded. With the arm of Thy strength Thou hast scattered Thine enemies.
11Who knoweth the power of thy anger, and for thy fear
11Yours are the heavens, and the earth is yours; you have made the world, and everything which is in it.
11Thine <FI>are<Fi> the heavens--the earth also <FI>is<Fi> Thine, The habitable world and its fulness, Thou hast founded them.
12Can number thy wrath? So make thy right hand known: and men learned in heart, in wisdom.
12You have made the north and the south; Tabor and Hermon are sounding with joy at your name.
12North and south Thou hast appointed them, Tabor and Hermon in Thy name do sing.
13Return, O Lord, how long? and be entreated in favour of thy servants.
13Yours is an arm of power; strong is your hand and high your right hand.
13Thou hast an arm with might, Strong is Thy hand--high Thy right hand.
14We are filled in the morning with thy mercy: and we have rejoiced, and are delighted all our days.
14The seat of your kingdom is resting on righteousness and right judging: mercy and good faith come before your face.
14Righteousness and judgment <FI>Are<Fi> the fixed place of Thy throne, Kindness and truth go before Thy face.
15We have rejoiced for the days in which thou hast humbled us: for the years in which we have seen evils.
15Happy are the people who have knowledge of the holy cry: the light of your face, O Lord, will be shining on their way.
15O the happiness of the people knowing the shout, O Jehovah, in the light of Thy face they walk habitually.
16Look upon thy servants and upon their works: and direct their children.
16In your name will they have joy all the day: in your righteousness will they be lifted up.
16In Thy name they rejoice all the day, And in Thy righteousness they are exalted,
17And let the brightness of the Lord our God be upon us: and direct thou the works of our hands over us; yea, the work of our hands do thou direct.
17For you are the glory of their strength; in your pleasure will our horn be lifted up.
17For the beauty of their strength <FI>art<Fi> Thou, And in Thy good will is our horn exalted,
18(not in this translation)
18For our breastplate is the Lord; and our king is the Holy One of Israel's.
18For of Jehovah <FI>is<Fi> our shield, And of the Holy One of Israel our king.
19(not in this translation)
19Then your voice came to your holy one in a vision, saying, I have put the crown on a strong one, lifting up one taken from among the people.
19Then Thou hast spoken in vision, To Thy saint, yea, Thou sayest, I have placed help upon a mighty one, Exalted a chosen one out of the people,
20(not in this translation)
20I have made discovery of David my servant; I have put my holy oil on his head.

21With whom My hand is established, My arm also doth strengthen him.

22The deceit of those who are against him will not overcome him; he will not be troubled by the sons of evil.

23(not in this translation)
23I will have those who are against him broken before his face, and his haters will be crushed under my blows.
23And I have beaten down before him his adversaries, And those hating him I plague,
24(not in this translation)
24But my faith and my mercy will be with him; and in my name will his horn be lifted up.
24And My faithfulness and kindness <FI>are<Fi> with him, And in My name is his horn exalted.
25(not in this translation)
25I will put his hand in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.
25And I have set on the sea his hand, And on the rivers his right hand.
26(not in this translation)

27(not in this translation)
27And I will make him the first of my sons, most high over the kings of the earth.
27I also first-born do appoint him, Highest of the kings of the earth.
28(not in this translation)
28I will keep my mercy for him for ever; my agreement with him will not be changed.
28To the age I keep for him My kindness, And My covenant <FI>is<Fi> stedfast with him.
29(not in this translation)
29His seed will keep their place for ever; his kingdom will be eternal, like the heavens.
29And I have set his seed for ever, And his throne as the days of the heavens.
30(not in this translation)
30If his children give up my law, and are not ruled by my decisions;
30If his sons forsake My law, And in My judgments do not walk;
31(not in this translation)
31If my rules are broken, and my orders are not kept;
31If My statutes they pollute, And My commands do not keep,
32(not in this translation)
32Then I will send punishment on them for their sin; my rod will be the reward of their evil-doing.
32I have looked after with a rod their transgression, And with strokes their iniquity,
33(not in this translation)
33But I will not take away my mercy from him, and will not be false to my faith.
33And My kindness I break not from him, Nor do I deal falsely in My faithfulness.
34(not in this translation)
34I will be true to my agreement; the things which have gone out of my lips will not be changed.
34I profane not My covenant, And that which is going forth from My lips I change not.
35(not in this translation)
35I have made an oath once by my holy name, that I will not be false to David.
35Once I have sworn by My holiness, I lie not to David,
36(not in this translation)
36His seed will not come to an end for ever; the seat of his kingdom will be like the sun before me.
36His seed is to the age, And his throne <FI>is<Fi> as the sun before Me,
37(not in this translation)
37It will be fixed for ever like the moon; and the witness in heaven is true. (Selah.)
37As the moon it is established--to the age, And the witness in the sky is stedfast. Selah.
38(not in this translation)
38But you have put him away in disgust; you have been angry with the king of your selection.
38And Thou, Thou hast cast off, and dost reject, Thou hast shown Thyself wroth With Thine anointed,
39(not in this translation)
39You have made your agreement with your servant of no effect: you have had no respect for his crown, it has come down even to the earth.
39Hast rejected the covenant of Thy servant, Thou hast polluted to the earth his crown,
40(not in this translation)
40All his walls are broken down; you have given his strong towers to destruction.

43His sword is turned back; you have not been his support in the fight.
43Also--Thou turnest back the sharpness of his sword, And hast not established him in battle,

46(not in this translation)
46How long, O Lord, will you Keep yourself for ever from our eyes? how long will your wrath be burning like fire?
46Till when, O Jehovah, art Thou hidden? For ever doth Thy fury burn as fire?
47(not in this translation)
47See how short my time is; why have you made all men for no purpose?
47Remember, I pray Thee, what <FI>is<Fi> life-time? Wherefore in vain hast Thou created All the sons of men?
48(not in this translation)
48What man now living will not see death? will he be able to keep back his soul from the underworld? (Selah.)

49Where <FI>are<Fi> Thy former kindnesses, O Lord. Thou hast sworn to David in Thy faithfulness,
50(not in this translation)
50Keep in mind, O Lord, the shame of your servants, and how the bitter words of all the people have come into my heart;
50Remember, O Lord, the reproach of Thy servants, I have borne in my bosom all the strivings of the peoples,
