1 O Lord, God of my salvation, I have been crying to you for help by day and by night:
1O Jehovah, the God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee.
1Of understanding, for Ethan the Ezrahite.
2Let my prayer come before you; give ear to my cry:
2Let my prayer enter into thy presence; Incline thine ear unto my cry.
2The mercies of the Lord I will sing for ever. I will shew forth thy truth with my mouth to generation and generation.
3For my soul is full of evils, and my life has come near to the underworld.
3For my soul is full of troubles, And my life draweth nigh unto Sheol.
3For thou hast said: Mercy shall be built up for ever in the heavens: thy truth shall be prepared in them.
4I am numbered among those who go down into the earth; I have become like a man for whom there is no help:
4I am reckoned with them that go down into the pit; I am as a man that hath no help,
4I have made a covenant with my elect: I have sworn to David my servant:
5My soul is among the dead, like those in the underworld, to whom you give no more thought; for they are cut off from your care.
5Cast off among the dead, Like the slain that lie in the grave, Whom thou rememberest no more, And they are cut off from thy hand.
5Thy seed will I settle for ever. And I will build up thy throne unto generation and generation.
6You have put me in the lowest deep, even in dark places.
6Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, In dark places, in the deeps.
6The heavens shall confess thy wonders, O Lord: and thy truth in the church of the saints.
7The weight of your wrath is crushing me, all your waves have overcome me. (Selah.)
7Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, And thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. [Selah
7For who in the clouds can be compared to the Lord: or who among the sons of God shall be like to God?
8You have sent my friends far away from me; you have made me a disgusting thing in their eyes: I am shut up, and not able to come out.
8Thou hast put mine acquaintance far from me; Thou hast made me an abomination unto them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.
8God, who is glorified in the assembly of the saints: great and terrible above all them that are about him.
9My eyes are wasting away because of my trouble: Lord, my cry has gone up to you every day, my hands are stretched out to you.
9Mine eye wasteth away by reason of affliction: I have called daily upon thee, O Jehovah; I have spread forth my hands unto thee.
9O Lord God of hosts, who is like to thee? thou art mighty, O Lord, and thy truth is round about thee.
10Will you do works of wonder for the dead? will the shades come back to give you praise? (Selah.)
10Wilt thou show wonders to the dead? Shall they that are deceased arise and praise thee? [Selah
10Thou rulest the power of the sea: and appeasest the motion of the waves thereof.
11Will the story of your mercy be given in the house of the dead? will news of your faith come to the place of destruction?
11Shall thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave? Or thy faithfulness in Destruction?
11Thou hast humbled the proud one, as one that is slain: with the arm of thy strength thou hast scattered thy enemies.
12May there be knowledge of your wonders in the dark? or of your righteousness where memory is dead?
12Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? And thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?
12Thine are the heavens, and thine is the earth: the world and the fulness thereof thou hast founded:
13But to you did I send up my cry, O Lord; in the morning my prayer came before you.
13But unto thee, O Jehovah, have I cried; And in the morning shall my prayer come before thee.
13The north and the sea thou hast created. Thabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name:
14Lord, why have you sent away my soul? why is your face covered from me?
14Jehovah, why castest thou off my soul? Why hidest thou thy face from me?
14Thy arm is with might. Let thy hand be strengthened, and thy right hand exalted:
15I have been troubled and in fear of death from the time when I was young; your wrath is hard on me, and I have no strength.
15I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: While I suffer thy terrors I am distracted.
15Justice and judgment are the preparation of thy throne. Mercy and truth shall go before thy face:
16The heat of your wrath has gone over me; I am broken by your cruel punishments.
16Thy fierce wrath is gone over me; Thy terrors have cut me off.
16Blessed is the people that knoweth jubilation. They shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance:
17They are round me all the day like water; they have made a circle about me.
17They came round about me like water all the day long; They compassed me about together.
17And in thy name they shall rejoice all the day, and in thy justice they shall be exalted.
18You have sent my friends and lovers far from me; I am gone from the memory of those who are dear to me.
18Lover and friend hast thou put far from me, And mine acquaintance into darkness.
18For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy good pleasure shall our horn be exalted.
