1Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint: Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
1To the end, a psalm of David. The canticle of Jeremias and Ezechiel to the people of the captivity, when they began to go out.
1 Hear, OGod, my voice in my plaint; preserve my life from fear of the enemy:
1To the Overseer. --A Psalm of David. Hear, O God, my voice, in my meditation, From the fear of an enemy Thou keepest my life,
2Hide me from the secret counsel of evil-doers, From the tumult of the workers of iniquity;
2A hymn, O God, becometh thee in Sion: and a vow shall be paid to thee in Jerusalem.
2 Hide me from the secret counsel of evil-doers, from the tumultuous crowd of the workers of iniquity,
2Hidest me from the secret counsel of evil doers, From the tumult of workers of iniquity.
3Who have whet their tongue like a sword, And have aimed their arrows, even bitter words,
3O hear my prayer: all flesh shall come to thee.
3 Who have sharpened their tongue like a sword, [and] have aimed their arrow, a bitter word;
3Who sharpened as a sword their tongue, They directed their arrow--a bitter word.
4That they may shoot in secret places at the perfect: Suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.
4The words of the wicked have prevailed over us: and thou wilt pardon our transgressions.
4 That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.
4To shoot in secret places the perfect, Suddenly they shoot him, and fear not.
5They encourage themselves in an evil purpose; They commune of laying snares privily; They say, Who will see them?
5Blessed is he whom thou hast chosen and taken to thee: he shall dwell in thy courts. We shall be filled with the good things of thy house; holy is thy temple,
5 They encourage themselves in an evil matter, they concert to hide snares; they say, Who will see them?
5They strengthen for themselves an evil thing, They recount of the hiding of snares, They have said, `Who doth look at it?'
6They search out iniquities; We have accomplished, say they, a diligent search: And the inward thought and the heart of every one is deep.
6Wonderful in justice. Hear us, O God our saviour, who art the hope of all the ends of the earth, and in the sea afar off.
6 They devise iniquities: We have it ready, the plan is diligently sought out. And each one's inward [thought] and heart is deep.
6They search out perverse things, `We perfected a searching search,' And the inward part of man, and the heart <FI>are<Fi> deep.
7But God will shoot at them; With an arrow suddenly shall they be wounded.
7Thou who preparest the mountains by thy strength, being girded with power:
7 ButGod will shoot an arrow at them: suddenly are they wounded;
7And God doth shoot them <FI>with<Fi> an arrow, Sudden have been their wounds,
8So they shall be made to stumble, their own tongue being against them: All that see them shall wag the head.
8Who troublest the depth of the sea, the noise of its waves. The Gentiles shall be troubled,
8 By their own tongue they are made to fall over one another: all that see them shall flee away.
8And they cause him to stumble, Against them <FI>is<Fi> their own tongue, Every looker on them fleeth away.
9And all men shall fear; And they shall declare the work of God, And shall wisely consider of his doing.
9And they that dwell in the uttermost borders shall be afraid at thy signs: thou shalt make the outgoings of the morning and of the evening to be joyful.
9 And all men shall fear, and shall declareGod's doing; and they shall wisely consider his work.
9And all men fear, and declare the work of God, And His deed they have considered wisely.
10The righteous shall be glad in Jehovah, and shall take refuge in him; And all the upright in heart shall glory.
10Thou hast visited the earth, and hast plentifully watered it; thou hast many ways enriched it. The river of God is filled with water, thou hast prepared their food: for so is its preparation.
10 The righteous shall rejoice in Jehovah, and trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.
10The righteous doth rejoice in Jehovah, And hath trusted in Him, And boast themselves do all the upright of heart!
