1O God, thou art my God; earnestly will I seek thee: My soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee, In a dry and weary land, where no water is.
1O God, you are my God; I search for you with all my heart. My soul thirsts for you and my body longs for you in this parched and exhausted land where there is no water.
2So have I looked upon thee in the sanctuary, To see thy power and thy glory.
2I have seen you in your holy place and gazed upon your power and your glory.
3Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, My lips shall praise thee.
3Because your faithful love is better than life itself, my lips will give you praise.
4So will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.
4I will bless you as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in prayer because of your name.
5My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; And my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips;
5My soul will be satisfied as if I had eaten the richest food; my mouth will praise you with shouts of joy.
6When I remember thee upon my bed, And meditate on thee in the night-watches.
6I think of you while I lie in bed; I meditate on you through the hours of the night.
7For thou hast been my help, And in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.
7Because you have been my helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings.
8My soul followeth hard after thee: Thy right hand upholdeth me.
8I cling to you with all my soul; your strong right hand holds me steady.
9But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, Shall go into the lower parts of the earth.
9But those who are trying to kill me will go down into the depths of the earth.
