1Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me.

1 Have mercy on me, O God, for man is attempting my destruction; every day he makes cruel attacks against me.

1Unto the end, destroy not, for David, for an inscription of a title, when he fled from Saul into the cave.

1Be merciful unto me, O God; for man would swallow me up: All the day long he fighting oppresseth me.

2Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High.

2My haters are ever ready to put an end to me; great numbers are lifting themselves up against me.

2Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me: for my soul trusteth in thee. And in the shadow of thy wings will I hope, until iniquity pass away.

2Mine enemies would swallow me up all the day long; For they are many that fight proudly against me.

3What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.

3In the time of my fear, I will have faith in you.

3I will cry to God the most high; to God who hath done good to me.

3What time I am afraid, I will put my trust in thee.

4In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.

4In God will I give praise to his word; in God have I put my hope; I will have no fear of what flesh may do to me.

4He hath sent from heaven and delivered me: he hath made them a reproach that trod upon me. God hath sent his mercy and his truth,

4In God (I will praise his word), In God have I put my trust, I will not be afraid; What can flesh do unto me?

5Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil.

5Every day they make wrong use of my words; all their thoughts are against me for evil.

5And he hath delivered my soul from the midst of the young lions. I slept troubled. The sons of men, whose teeth are weapons and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

5All the day long they wrest my words: All their thoughts are against me for evil.

6They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.

6They come together, they are waiting in secret places, they take note of my steps, they are waiting for my soul.

6Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens, and thy glory above all the earth.

6They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, They mark my steps, Even as they have waited for my soul.

7Shall they escape by iniquity? in thine anger cast down the people, O God.

7By evil-doing they will not get free from punishment. In wrath, O God, let the peoples be made low.

7They prepared a snare for my feet; and they bowed down my soul. They dug a pit before my face, and they are fallen into it.

7Shall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the peoples, O God.

8Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?

8You have seen my wanderings; put the drops from my eyes into your bottle; are they not in your record?

8My heart is ready, O God, my heart is ready: I will sing, and rehearse a psalm.

8Thou numberest my wanderings: Put thou my tears into thy bottle; Are they not in thy book?

9When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.

9When I send up my cry to you, my haters will be turned back; I am certain of this, for God is with me.

9Arise, O my glory, arise psaltery and harp: I will arise early.

9Then shall mine enemies turn back in the day that I call: This I know, that God is for me.

10In God will I praise his word: in the Lord will I praise his word.

10In God will I give praise to his word; in the Lord will I give praise to his word.

10I will give praise to thee, O Lord, among the people: I will sing a psalm to thee among the nations.

10In God (I will praise his word), In Jehovah (I will praise his word),

11In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.

11In God have I put my hope, I will have no fear of what man may do to me.

11For thy mercy is magnified even to the heavens: and thy truth unto the clouds.

11In God have I put my trust, I will not be afraid; What can man do unto me?

12Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render praises unto thee.

12I keep the memory of my debt to you, O God; I will give you the offerings of praise.

12Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: and thy glory above all the earth.

12Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render thank-offerings unto thee.

13For thou hast delivered my soul from death: wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?

13Because you have taken my soul from the power of death; and kept my feet from falling, so that I may be walking before God in the light of life.

13(not in this translation)

13For thou hast delivered my soul from death: Hast thou not delivered my feet from falling, That I may walk before God In the light of the living?
