1Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? The lovingkindness of God endureth continually.
1To the Overseer. --An instruction, by David, in the coming in of Doeg the Edomite, and he declareth to Saul, and saith to him, `David came in unto the house of Ahimelech.' What, boasteth thou in evil, O mighty one? The kindness of God <FI>is<Fi> all the day.
1Unto the end, for Maeleth, understandings to David. The fool said in his heart: There is no God.
1 Why boastest thou thyself in evil, thou mighty man? The loving-kindness ofGod [abideth] continually.
2Thy tongue deviseth very wickedness, Like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
2Mischiefs doth thy tongue devise, Like a sharp razor, working deceit.
2They are corrupted, and become abominable in iniquities: there is none that doth good.
2 Thy tongue deviseth mischievous things, like a sharp razor, practising deceit.
3Thou lovest evil more than good, And lying rather than to speak righteousness. [Selah
3Thou hast loved evil rather than good, Lying, than speaking righteousness. Selah.
3God looked down from heaven on the children of men: to see if there were any that did understand, or did seek God.
3 Thou hast loved evil rather than good, lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.
4Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.
4Thou hast loved all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.
4All have gone aside, they are become unprofitable together, there is none that doth good, no not one.
4 Thou hast loved all devouring words, O deceitful tongue!
5God will likewise destroy thee for ever; He will take thee up, and pluck thee out of thy tent, And root thee out of the land of the living. [Selah
5Also--God doth break thee down for ever, Taketh thee, and pulleth thee out of the tent, And He hath uprooted thee Out of the land of the living. Selah.
5Shall not all the workers of iniquity know, who eat up my people as they eat bread?
5 God shall likewise destroy thee for ever; he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of [thy] tent, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.
6The righteous also shall see it, and fear, And shall laugh at him, saying,
6And the righteous see, And fear, and laugh at him.
6They have not called upon God: there have they trembled for fear, where there was no fear. For God hath scattered the bones of them that please men: they have been confounded, because God hath despised them.
6 The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him, [saying,]
7Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength, But trusted in the abundance of his riches, And strengthened himself in his wickedness.
7`Lo, the man who maketh not God his strong place, And trusteth in the abundance of his riches, He is strong in his mischiefs.'
7Who will give out of Sion the salvation of Israel? when God shall bring back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.
7 Behold the man that made notGod his strength, but put confidence in the abundance of his riches, [and] strengthened himself in his avarice.
8But as for me, I am like a green olive-tree in the house of God: I trust in the lovingkindness of God for ever and ever.
8And I, as a green olive in the house of God, I have trusted in the kindness of God, To the age and for ever,
8(not in this translation)
8 But as for me, I am like a green olive-tree in the house ofGod: I will confide in the loving-kindness ofGod for ever and ever.
9I will give thee thanks for ever, because thou hast done it; And I will hope in thy name, for it is good, in the presence of thy saints.
9I thank Thee to the age, because Thou hast done <FI>it<Fi> , And I wait <FI>on<Fi> Thy name for <FI>it is<Fi> good before Thy saints!
9(not in this translation)
9 I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done [it]; and I will wait on thy name, before thygodly ones, for it is good.
