1Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: According to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
1 Be gracious unto me, OGod, according to thy loving-kindness; according to the abundance of thy tender mercies, blot out my transgressions.
1Unto the end, understanding for David,
2Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin.
2 Wash me fully from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
2When Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul: David went to the house of Achimelech.
3For I know my transgressions; And my sin is ever before me.
3 For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is continually before me.
3Why dost thou glory in malice, thou that art mighty in iniquity?
4Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, And done that which is evil in thy sight; That thou mayest be justified when thou speakest, And be clear when thou judgest.
4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done what is evil in thy sight; that thou mayest be justified when thou speakest, be clear when thou judgest.
4All the day long thy tongue hath devised injustice: as a sharp razor, thou hast wrought deceit.
5Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity; And in sin did my mother conceive me.
5 Behold, in iniquity was I brought forth, and in sin did my mother conceive me.
5Thou hast loved malice more than goodness: and iniquity rather than to speak righteousness.
6Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts; And in the hidden part thou wilt make me to know wisdom.
6 Behold, thou wilt have truth in the inward parts; and in the hidden [part] thou wilt make me to know wisdom.
6Thou hast loved all the words of ruin, O deceitful tongue.
7Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
7Therefore will God destroy thee for ever: he will pluck thee out, and remove thee from thy dwelling place: and thy root out of the land of the living.
8Make me to hear joy and gladness, That the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
8 Make me to hear gladness and joy; [that] the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
8The just shall see and fear, and shall laugh at him, and say:
9Hide thy face from my sins, And blot out all mine iniquities.
9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
9Behold the man that made not God his helper: But trusted in the abundance of his riches: and prevailed in his vanity.
10Create in me a clean heart, O God; And renew a right spirit within me.
10 Create in me a clean heart, OGod, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
10But I, as a fruitful olive tree in the house of God, have hoped in the mercy of God for ever, yea for ever and ever.
11Cast me not away from thy presence; And take not thy holy Spirit from me.
11 Cast me not away from thy presence, and take not the spirit of thy holiness from me.
11I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name, for it is good in the sight of thy saints.
12Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; And uphold me with a willing spirit.
12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, and let a willing spirit sustain me.

13Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; And sinners shall be converted unto thee.
13 I will teach transgressors thy ways, and sinners shall return unto thee.

14Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation; Andmy tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
14 Deliver me from blood-guiltiness, OGod, thouGod of my salvation: my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.

15O Lord, open thou my lips; And my mouth shall show forth thy praise.
15 Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall declare thy praise.

16For thou delightest not in sacrifice; else would I give it: Thou hast no pleasure in burnt-offering.
16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou hast no pleasure in burnt-offering.

17The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: A broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
17 The sacrifices ofGod are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, OGod, thou wilt not despise.

18Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: Build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
18 Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion; build the walls of Jerusalem.

19Then wilt thou delight in the sacrifices of righteousness, In burnt-offering and whole burnt-offering: Then will they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
19 Then shalt thou have sacrifices of righteousness, burnt-offering, and whole burnt-offering; then shall they offer up bullocks upon thine altar.
