1 God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.
1To the Overseer. --By sons of Korah. `For the Virgins.' --A song. God <FI>is<Fi> to us a refuge and strength, A help in adversities found most surely.
1Unto the end, for the sons of Core.
1 God is our harbour and our strength, a very present help in trouble.
2Therefore will we not fear, though the earth do change, And though the mountains be shaken into the heart of the seas;
2Therefore we fear not in the changing of earth, And in the slipping of mountains Into the heart of the seas.
2O clap your hands, all ye nations: shout unto God with the voice of joy,
2For this cause we will have no fear, even though the earth is changed, and though the mountains are moved in the heart of the sea;
3Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, Though the mountains tremble with the swelling thereof. [Selah
3Roar--troubled are its waters, Mountains they shake in its pride. Selah.
3For the Lord is high, terrible: a great king over all the earth.
3Though its waters are sounding and troubled, and though the mountains are shaking with their violent motion. (Selah.)
4 There is a river, the streams whereof make glad the city of God, The holy place of the tabernacles of the Most High.
4A river--its rivulets rejoice the city of God, Thy holy place of the tabernacles of the Most High.
4He hath subdued the people under us; and the nations under our feet.
4There is a river whose streams make glad the resting-place of God, the holy place of the tents of the Most High.
5God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God will help her, and that right early.
5God <FI>is<Fi> in her midst--she is not moved, God doth help her at the turn of the morn!
5He hath chosen for us his inheritance, the beauty of Jacob which he hath loved.
5God has taken his place in her; she will not be moved: he will come to her help at the dawn of morning.
6The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved: He uttered his voice, the earth melted.
6Troubled have been nations, Moved have been kingdoms, He hath given forth with His voice, earth melteth.
6God is ascended with jubilee, and the Lord with the sound of trumpet.
6The nations were angry, the kingdoms were moved; at the sound of his voice the earth became like wax.
7Jehovah of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. [Selah
7Jehovah of Hosts <FI>is<Fi> with us, A tower for us <FI>is<Fi> the God of Jacob. Selah.
7Sing praises to our God, sing ye: sing praises to our king, sing ye.
7The Lord of armies is with us; the God of Jacob is our high tower. (Selah.)
8 Come, behold the works of Jehovah, What desolations he hath made in the earth.
8Come ye, see the works of Jehovah, Who hath done astonishing things in the earth,
8For God is the king of all the earth: sing ye wisely.
8Come, see the works of the Lord, the destruction which he has made in the earth.
9He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; He breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; He burneth the chariots in the fire.
9Causing wars to cease, Unto the end of the earth, the bow he shivereth, And the spear He hath cut asunder, Chariots he doth burn with fire.
9God shall reign over the nations: God sitteth on his holy throne.
9He puts an end to wars over all the earth; by him the bow is broken, and the spear cut in two, and the carriage burned in the fire.
10Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.
10Desist, and know that I <FI>am<Fi> God, I am exalted among nations, I am exalted in the earth.
10The princes of the people are gathered together, with the God of Abraham: for the strong gods of the earth are exceedingly exalted.
10Be at peace in the knowledge that I am God: I will be lifted up among the nations, I will be honoured through all the earth.
