1 When I was waiting quietly for the Lord, his heart was turned to me, and he gave ear to my cry.
1Unto the end, a psalm for David himself.
1I waited patiently for Jehovah; And he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
1To the Overseer. --A Psalm of David. I have diligently expected Jehovah, And He inclineth to me, and heareth my cry,
2He took me up out of a deep waste place, out of the soft and sticky earth; he put my feet on a rock, and made my steps certain.
2Blessed is he that understandeth concerning the needy and the poor: the Lord will deliver him in the evil day.
2He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay; And he set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
2And He doth cause me to come up From a pit of desolation--from mire of mud, And He raiseth up on a rock my feet, He is establishing my steps.
3And he put a new song in my mouth, even praise to our God; numbers have seen it with fear, and put their faith in the Lord.
3The Lord preserve him and give him life, and make him blessed upon the earth: and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies.
3And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: Many shall see it, and fear, And shall trust in Jehovah.
3And He putteth in my mouth a new song, `Praise to our God.' Many do see and fear, and trust in Jehovah.
4Happy is the man who has faith in the Lord, and does not give honour to the men of pride or to those who are turned away to deceit.
4The Lord help him on his bed of sorrow: thou hast turned all his couch in his sickness.
4Blessed is the man that maketh Jehovah his trust, And respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
4O the happiness of the man Who hath made Jehovah his trust, And hath not turned unto the proud, And those turning aside to lies.
5O Lord my God, great are the wonders which you have done in your thought for us; it is not possible to put them out in order before you; when I would give an account of them, their number is greater than I may say.
5I said: O Lord, be thou merciful to me: heal my soul, for I have sinned against thee.
5Many, O Jehovah my God, are the wonderful works which thou hast done, And thy thoughts which are to us-ward: They cannot be set in order unto thee; If I would declare and speak of them, They are more than can be numbered.
5Much hast Thou done, Jehovah my God; Thy wonders and Thy thoughts toward us, There is none to arrange unto Thee, I declare and speak: They have been more than to be numbered.
6You had no desire for offerings of beasts or fruits of the earth; ears you made for me: for burned offerings and sin offerings you made no request.
6My enemies have spoken evils against me: when shall he die and his name perish?
6Sacrifice and offering thou hast no delight in; Mine ears hast thou opened: Burnt-offering and sin-offering hast thou not required.
6Sacrifice and present Thou hast not desired, Ears Thou hast prepared for me, Burnt and sin-offering Thou hast not asked.
7Then I said, See, I come; it is recorded of me in the roll of the book,
7And if he came in to see me, he spoke vain things: his heart gathered together iniquity to itself. He went out and spoke to the same purpose.
7Then said I, Lo, I am come; In the roll of the book it is written of me:
7Then said I, `Lo, I have come,' In the roll of the book it is written of me,
8My delight is to do your pleasure, O my God; truly, your law is in my heart.
8All my enemies whispered together against me: they devised evils to me.
8I delight to do thy will, O my God; Yea, thy law is within my heart.
8To do Thy pleasure, my God, I have delighted, And Thy law <FI>is<Fi> within my heart.
9I have given news of righteousness in the great meeting; O Lord, you have knowledge that I have not kept back my words.
9They determined against me an unjust word: shall he that sleepeth rise again no more?
9I have proclaimed glad tidings of righteousness in the great assembly; Lo, I will not refrain my lips, O Jehovah, thou knowest.
9I have proclaimed tidings of righteousness In the great assembly, lo, my lips I restrain not, O Jehovah, Thou hast known.
10Your righteousness has not been folded away in my heart; I have made clear your true word and your salvation; I have not kept secret your mercy or your faith from the great meeting.
10For even the man of my peace, in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, hath greatly supplanted me.
10I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation; I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great assembly.
10Thy righteousness I have not concealed In the midst of my heart, Thy faithfulness and Thy salvation I have told, I have not hidden Thy kindness and Thy truth, To the great assembly.
11Take not away your gentle mercies from me, O Lord; let your mercy and your faith keep me safe for ever.
11But thou, O Lord, have mercy on me, and raise me up again: and I will requite them.
11Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O Jehovah; Let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.
11Thou, O Jehovah, restrainest not Thy mercies from me, Thy kindness and Thy truth do continually keep me.
12For unnumbered evils are round about me; my sins have overtaken me, so that I am bent down with their weight; they are more than the hairs of my head, my strength is gone because of them.
12By this I know, that thou hast had a good will for me: because my enemy shall not rejoice over me.
12For innumerable evils have compassed me about; Mine iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to look up; They are more than the hairs of my head; And my heart hath failed me.
12For compassed me have evils innumerable, Overtaken me have mine iniquities, And I have not been able to see; They have been more than the hairs of my head, And my heart hath forsaken me.
13Be pleased, O Lord, to take me out of danger; O Lord, come quickly and give me help.
13But thou hast upheld me by reason of my innocence: and hast established me in thy sight for ever.
13Be pleased, O Jehovah, to deliver me: Make haste to help me, O Jehovah.
13Be pleased, O Jehovah, to deliver me, O Jehovah, for my help make haste.
14Let those who go after my soul for its destruction have shame and trouble together; let them be turned back and made foolish who take pleasure in my trouble.
14Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel from eternity to eternity. So be it. So be it.
14Let them be put to shame and confounded together That seek after my soul to destroy it: Let them be turned backward and brought to dishonor That delight in my hurt.
14They are ashamed and confounded together, Who are seeking my soul to destroy it, They are turned backward, And are ashamed, who are desiring my evil.
15Let those who say to me, Aha, aha! be surprised because of their shame.
15(not in this translation)
15Let them be desolate by reason of their shame That say unto me, Aha, aha.
15They are desolate because of their shame, Who are saying to me, `Aha, aha.'
16Let all those who are looking for you be glad and have joy in you; let the lovers of your salvation ever say, May the Lord be great.
16(not in this translation)
16Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: Let such as love thy salvation say continually, Jehovah be magnified.
16All seeking Thee rejoice and are glad in Thee, Those loving Thy salvation say continually, `Jehovah is magnified.'
17Though I am poor and in need, the Lord has me in mind; you are my help and my saviour; let there be no waiting, O my God.
17(not in this translation)
17But I am poor and needy; Yetthe Lord thinketh upon me: Thou art my help and my deliverer; Make no tarrying, O my God.
17And I <FI>am<Fi> poor and needy, The Lord doth devise for me. My help and my deliverer <FI>art<Fi> Thou, O my God, tarry Thou not.
