1How long, O Jehovah? wilt thou forget me for ever? How long wilt thou hide thy face from me?

1How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?

2How long shall I take counsel in my soul, Having sorrow in my heart all the day? How long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?

2How long must I struggle with my own thoughts and carry this sadness in my heart every day? How long will my enemy keep winning over me?

3Considerand answer me, O Jehovah my God: Lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death;

3Look at me and answer me, Lord my God! Give me strength and hope, or I will die.

4Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him; Lest mine adversaries rejoice when I am moved.

4Otherwise, my enemy will say, 'I have defeated him,' and my foes will celebrate my downfall.

5But I have trusted in thy lovingkindness; My heart shall rejoice in thy salvation.

5But I trust in your faithful love. My heart will be happy because you save me.

6I will sing unto Jehovah, Because he hath dealt bountifully with me.

6I will sing to the Lord because he has been so good to me.
