1 In my trouble my cry went up to the Lord, and he gave me an answer.

1In my distress I cried unto Jehovah, And he answered me.

1I have lifted up my eyes to the mountains, from whence help shall come to me.

1A Song of the Ascents. Unto Jehovah in my distress I have called, And He answereth me.

2O Lord, be the saviour of my soul from false lips, and from the tongue of deceit.

2Deliver my soul, O Jehovah, from lying lips, Andfrom a deceitful tongue.

2My help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

2O Jehovah, deliver my soul from a lying lip, From a deceitful tongue!

3What punishment will he give you? what more will he do to you, you false tongue?

3What shall be given unto thee, and what shall be done more unto thee, Thou deceitful tongue?

3May he not suffer thy foot to be moved: neither let him slumber that keepeth thee.

3What doth He give to thee? And what doth He add to thee? O deceitful tongue!

4Sharp arrows of the strong, and burning fire.

4Sharp arrows of the mighty, With coals of juniper.

4Behold he shall neither slumber nor sleep, that keepeth Israel.

4Sharp arrows of a mighty one, with broom-coals.

5Sorrow is mine because I am strange in Meshech, and living in the tents of Kedar.

5Woe is me, that I sojourn in Meshech, That I dwell among the tents of Kedar!

5The Lord is thy keeper, the Lord is thy protection upon thy right hand.

5Woe to me, for I have inhabited Mesech, I have dwelt with tents of Kedar.

6My soul has long been living with the haters of peace.

6My soul hath long had her dwelling With him that hateth peace.

6The sun shall not burn thee by day: nor the moon by night.

6Too much hath my soul dwelt with him who is hating peace.

7I am for peace: but when I say so, they are for war.

7I amforpeace: But when I speak, they are for war.

7The Lord keepeth thee from all evil: may the Lord keep thy soul.

7I <FI>am<Fi> peace, and when I speak they <FI>are<Fi> for war!
