1In Jehovah do I take refuge: How say ye to my soul, Fleeasa bird to your mountain;

1I take shelter in the LORD; so how can you say to me, 'Fly away like a bird to your mountain'?

2For, lo, the wicked bend the bow, They make ready their arrow upon the string, That they may shoot in darkness at the upright in heart;

2Look, the wicked are bending their bows; they have set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at those who are honest and good.

3If the foundations be destroyed, What can the righteous do?

3If the very foundations of society are destroyed, what can the righteous people do?

4Jehovah is in his holy temple; Jehovah, his throne is in heaven; His eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.

4The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD’s throne is in heaven. He watches everyone closely; his eyes examine all of humanity.

5Jehovah trieth the righteous; But the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.

5The LORD tests the righteous, but he hates the wicked and those who love violence with all his heart.

6Upon the wicked he will rain snares; Fire and brimstone and burning wind shall be the portion of their cup.

6He will rain down hot coals and burning sulfur on the wicked; a scorching wind is the fate they deserve.

7For Jehovah is righteous; he loveth righteousness: The upright shall behold his face.

7For the LORD is righteous, and he loves justice; those who are honest will see his face.
