What Philippians 4:23 means
Paul’s last word is a benediction: “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.” Grace—unearned favor and sustaining help—began their life in Christ and must continue to nourish their inner person. Naming “the Lord Jesus Christ” anchors all exhortations in his authority and kindness. Addressing their “spirit” reaches the deepest center of life where joy, peace, and resolve are formed. This closing prayer gathers the whole letter’s aims into one supply: the Lord’s gracious presence. With grace upon them, they can stand firm, reconcile, rejoice, pray, think well, give generously, and endure, knowing Christ is enough.

Context
The benediction concludes the letter’s themes—unity, joy, peace, contentment, and partnership—by rooting them in Christ’s ongoing grace. After greetings that highlighted the church’s broad fellowship, this final line personalizes the blessing to each believer’s inner life. It leaves the Philippians not with mere instructions but with the resources of the Lord himself, fitting the entire epistle’s tone of affectionate, Christ-centered encouragement.
