What Philippians 4:21 means

Paul sends greetings to every saint in Christ Jesus, emphasizing each believer’s holy identity and personal value. He wants none overlooked. He also conveys greetings from “the brethren” with him, showing solidarity between the imprisoned apostle’s circle and the church in Philippi. Their fellowship transcends location and chains because it is “in Christ Jesus.” This simple exchange of greetings embodies the unity he has urged: saints caring for saints, known and unknown, bound together by the gospel. It reminds the Philippians that they are part of a larger family laboring and praying together.

Context

After doxology, Paul turns to warm, inclusive greetings, strengthening relational ties. He will widen the circle further in verse 22 to include “all the saints” where he is, with a remarkable note about Cæsar’s household. These greetings show the gospel’s penetration into unexpected places and encourage the Philippians that their faith is shared across social lines. The final verse will then bestow grace, the fitting end to a letter centered on Christ’s sustaining favor.

v.20Now unto our God and Father be the glory for ever and ever. Amen.

v.21This passage

v.22All the saints salute you, especially they that are of Cæsar’s household.
