1And the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came into the wilderness of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.
1Then came the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.
1In the first month all the children of Israel came into the waste land of Zin, and put up their tents in Kadesh; there death came to Miriam, and they put her body to rest in the earth.
1And the children of Israel, and all the multitude came into the desert of Sin, in the first month: and the people abode in Cades. And Mary died there, and was buried in the same place.
2And there was no water for the congregation: and they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.
2And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.
2And there was no water for the people: and they came together against Moses and against Aaron.
2And the people wanting water, came together against Moses and Aaron:
3And the people strove with Moses, and spake, saying, Would that we had died when our brethren died before Jehovah!
3And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the Lord!
3And the people were angry with Moses and said, If only death had overtaken us when our brothers came to their death before the Lord!
3And making a sedition, they said: Would God we had perished among our brethren before the Lord.
4And why have ye brought the assembly of Jehovah into this wilderness, that we should die there, we and our beasts?
4And why have ye brought up the congregation of the Lord into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?
4Why have you taken the Lord's people into this waste, for death to come to us and to our cattle there?
4Why have you brought out the church of the Lord into the wilderness, that both we and our cattle should die?
5And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.
5And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.
5Why have you made us come out of Egypt into this evil place? This is no place of seed or figs or vines or other fruits, and there is no water for drinking.
5Why have you made us come up out of Egypt, and have brought us into this wretched place which cannot be sowed, nor bringeth forth figs, nor vines, nor pomegranates, neither is there any water to drink?
6And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tent of meeting, and fell upon their faces: and the glory of Jehovah appeared unto them.
6And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the Lord appeared unto them.
6Then Moses and Aaron went away from the people to the door of the Tent of meeting; and, falling on their faces there, they saw the glory of the Lord.
6And Moses and Aaron leaving the multitude, went into the tabernacle of the covenant, and fell flat upon the ground, and cried to the Lord, and said. O Lord God, hear the cry of this people, and open to them thy treasure, a fountain of living water, that being satisfied, they may cease to murmur. And the glory of the Lord appeared over them.
7And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,
7And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
7And the Lord said to Moses,
7And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
8Take the rod, and assemble the congregation, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes, that it give forth its water; and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock; so thou shalt give the congregation and their cattle drink.
8Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.
8Take the rod, you and Aaron, your brother, and make all the people come together, and before their eyes give orders to the rock to give out its water; and so make water come out of the rock for them, and give the people and their cattle drink.
8Take the rod, and assemble the people together, thou and Aaron thy brother, and speak to the rock before them, and it shall yield waters. And when thou hast brought forth water out of the rock, all the multitude and their cattle shall drink.
9And Moses took the rod from before Jehovah, as he commanded him.
9And Moses took the rod from before the Lord, as he commanded him.
9And Moses took the rod from before the Lord as he gave him orders.
9Moses therefore took the rod, which was before the Lord, as he had commanded him,
10And Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; shall we bring you forth water out of this rock?
10And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?
10Then Moses and Aaron made the people come together in front of the rock, and he said to them, Give ear now, you people whose hearts are turned from the Lord; are we to get water for you out of the rock?
10And having gathered together the multitude before the rock, he said to them: Hear, ye rebellious and incredulous: Can we bring you forth water out of this rock?
11And Moses lifted up his hand, and smote the rock with his rod twice: and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their cattle.
11And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.
11And lifting up his hand, Moses gave the rock two blows with his rod: and water came streaming out, and the people and their cattle had drink enough.
11And when Moses bad lifted up his hand, and struck the rock twice with the rod, there came forth water in great abundance, so that the people and their cattle drank,
12And Jehovah said unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed not in me, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.
12And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.
12Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, Because you had not enough faith in me to keep my name holy before the children of Israel, you will not take this people into the land which I have given them.
12And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron: Because you have not believed me, to sanctify me before the children of Israel, you shall not bring these people into the land, which I will give them.
13These are the waters of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with Jehovah, and he was sanctified in them.
13This is the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the Lord, and he was sanctified in them.
13These are the waters of Meribah; because the children of Israel went against the Lord, and they saw that he was holy among them.
13This is the Water of contradiction, where the children of Israel strove with words against the Lord, and he was sanctified in them.
14And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that hath befallen us:
14And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that hath befallen us:
14Then Moses sent men from Kadesh to the king of Edom to say to him, Your brother Israel says, You have knowledge of all the things we have been through;
14In the mean time Moses sent messengers from Cades to the king of Edom, to say: Thus saith thy brother Israel: Thou knowest all the labour that hath come upon us:
15how our fathers went down into Egypt, and we dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians dealt ill with us, and our fathers:
15How our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians vexed us, and our fathers:
15How our fathers went down into Egypt, and we were living in Egypt for a long time; and the Egyptians were cruel to us and to our fathers:
15In what manner our fathers went down into Egypt, and there we dwelt a long time, and the Egyptians afflicted us and our fathers.
16and when we cried unto Jehovah, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of thy border.
16And when we cried unto the Lord, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and hath brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of thy border:
16And the Lord gave ear to the voice of our cry, and sent an angel and took us out of Egypt: and now we are in Kadesh, a town on the edge of your land;
16And how we cried to the Lord, and he heard us, and sent an angel, who hath brought us out of Egypt. Lo, we are now in the city of Cades, which is in the uttermost of thy borders,
17Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy land: we will not pass through field or through vineyard, neither will we drink of the water of the wells; we will go along the king’s highway; we will not turn aside to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy border.
17Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king’s high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy borders.
17Let us now go through your land: we will not go into field or vine-garden, or take the water of the springs; we will go by the highway, not turning to the right or to the left, till we have gone past the limits of your land.
17And we beseech thee that we may have leave to pass through thy country. We will not go through the fields, nor through the vineyards, we will not drink the waters of thy wells, but we will go by the common highway, neither turning aside to the right hand, nor to the left, till we are past thy borders.
18And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass through me, lest I come out with the sword against thee.
18And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass by me, lest I come out against thee with the sword.
18And Edom said, You are not to go through my land, for if you do I will come out against you with the sword.
18And Edom answered them: Thou shalt not pass by me: if thou dost I will come out armed against thee.
19And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go up by the highway; and if we drink of thy water, I and my cattle, then will I give the price thereof: let me only, without doing anything else, pass through on my feet.
19And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way: and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, then I will pay for it: I will only, without doing any thing else, go through on my feet.
19And the children of Israel said to him, We will go up by the highway: and if we or our cattle take of your water, we will give you a price for it: only let us go through on our feet, nothing more.
19And the children of Israel said: We will go by the beaten way: and if we and our cattle drink of thy waters, we will give thee what is just: there shall be no difficulty in the price, only let us pass speedily.
20And he said, Thou shalt not pass through. And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand.
20And he said, Thou shalt not go through. And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand.
20But he said, You are not to go through. And Edom came out against them in his strength, with a great army.
20But he answered: Thou shalt not pass. And immediately he came forth to meet them with an infinite multitude, and a strong hand,
21Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border: wherefore Israel turned away from him.
21Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border: wherefore Israel turned away from him.
21So Edom would not let Israel go through his land; and Israel went in another direction.
21Neither would he condescend to their desire to grant them passage through his borders. Wherefore Israel turned another way from him.
22And they journeyed from Kadesh: and the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came unto mount Hor.
22And the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, journeyed from Kadesh, and came unto mount Hor.
22And they went on from Kadesh, and came, with all their people, to Mount Hor.
22And when they had removed the camp from Cades, they came to mount Hor, which is in the borders of the land of Edom:
23And Jehovah spake unto Moses and Aaron in mount Hor, by the border of the land of Edom, saying,
23And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron in mount Hor, by the coast of the land of Edom, saying,
23And at Mount Hor, at the edge of the land of Edom, the Lord said to Moses and Aaron,
23Where the Lord spoke to Moses:
24Aaron shall be gathered unto his people; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah.
24Aaron shall be gathered unto his people: for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my word at the water of Meribah.
24Aaron will be put to rest with his people; he will not go into the land which I have given to the children of Israel, because you went against my word at the waters of Meribah.
24Let Aaron, saith he, go to his people: for he shall not go into the land which I have given the children of Israel, because he was incredulous to my words, at the waters of contradiction.
25Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount Hor;
25Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount Hor:
25So take Aaron and Eleazar, his son, up into Mount Hor;
25Take Aaron and his son with him, and bring them up into mount Hor:
26and strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be gathered unto his people, and shall die there.
26And strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be gathered unto his people, and shall die there.
26And take Aaron's robes off him and put them on Eleazar, his son: and death will come to Aaron there, and he will be put to rest with his people.
26And when thou hast stripped the father of his vesture, thou shalt vest therewith Eleazar his son: Aaron shall be gathered to his people, and die there.
27And Moses did as Jehovah commanded: and they went up into mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.
27And Moses did as the Lord commanded: and they went up into mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.
27So Moses did as the Lord had said, and before the eyes of all the people they went up Mount Hor.
27Moses did as the Lord had commanded: and they went up into mount Hor before all the multitude.
28And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there on the top of the mount: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount.
28And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount.
28And Moses took off Aaron's robes, and put them on Eleazar, his son; and there on the top of the mountain death came to Aaron: then Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.
28And when he had stripped Aaron of his vestments, he vested Eleazar his son with them.
29And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they wept for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.
29And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.
29And when the people saw that Aaron was dead, all the children of Israel gave themselves up to weeping for him for thirty days.
29And Aaron being dead in the top of the mountain, he came down with Eleazar.
