1And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married; for he had married a Cushite woman.

1And Mary and Aaron spoke against Moses, because of his wife the Ethiopian,

1Now Miriam and Aaron said evil against Moses, because of the Cushite woman to whom he was married, for he had taken a Cushite woman as his wife.

1And Miriam speaketh--Aaron also--against Moses concerning the circumstance of the Cushite woman whom he had taken: for a Cushite woman he had taken;

2And they said, Hath Jehovah indeed spoken only with Moses? hath he not spoken also with us? And Jehovah heard it.

2And they said: Hath the Lord spoken by Moses only? Hath he not also spoken to us in like manner? And when the Lord heard this,

2And they said, Have the words of the Lord been given to Moses only? have they not come to us? And the Lord took note of it.

2and they say, `Only by Moses hath Jehovah spoken? also by us hath he not spoken?' and Jehovah heareth.

3Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men that were upon the face of the earth.

3(For Moses was a man exceeding meek above all men that dwelt upon earth)

3Now the man Moses was more gentle than any other man on earth.

3And the man Moses <FI>is<Fi> very humble, more than any of the men who <FI>are<Fi> on the face of the ground.

4And Jehovah spake suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, Come out ye three unto the tent of meeting. And they three came out.

4Immediately he spoke to him, and to Aaron and Mary: Come out you three only to the tabernacle of the covenant. And when they were come out,

4And suddenly the Lord said to Moses and Aaron and Miriam, Come out, you three, to the Tent of meeting. And the three of them went out.

4And Jehovah saith suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, `Come out ye three unto the tent of meeting;' and they three come out.

5And Jehovah came down in a pillar of cloud, and stood at the door of the Tent, and called Aaron and Miriam; and they both came forth.

5The Lord came down in a pillar of the cloud, and stood in the entry of the tabernacle calling to Aaron and Mary. And when they were come,

5And the Lord came down in a pillar of cloud, taking his place at the door of the Tent, and made Aaron and Miriam come before him.

5And Jehovah cometh down in the pillar of the cloud, and standeth at the opening of the tent, and calleth Aaron and Miriam, and they come out both of them.

6And he said, Hear now my words: if there be a prophet among you, I Jehovah will make myself known unto him in a vision, I will speak with him in a dream.

6He said to them: Hear my words: if there be among you a prophet of the Lord, I will appear to him in a vision, or I will speak to him in a dream.

6And he said, Now give ear to my words: if there is a prophet among you I will give him knowledge of myself in a vision and will let my words come to him in a dream.

6And He saith, `Hear, I pray you, My words: If your prophet is of Jehovah--in an appearance unto him I make Myself known; in a dream I speak with him;

7My servant Moses is not so; he is faithful in all my house:

7But it is not so with my servant Moses who is most faithful in all my house:

7My servant Moses is not so; he is true to me in all my house:

7not so My servant Moses; in all My house he <FI>is<Fi> stedfast;

8with him will I speak mouth to mouth, even manifestly, and not in dark speeches; and the form of Jehovah shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant, against Moses?

8For I speak to him mouth to mouth: and plainly, and not by riddles and figures doth he see the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak ill of my servant Moses?

8With him I will have talk mouth to mouth, openly and not in dark sayings; and with his eyes he will see the form of the Lord: why then had you no fear of saying evil against my servant Moses?

8mouth unto mouth I speak with him, and <FI>by<Fi> an appearance, and not in riddles; and the form of Jehovah he beholdeth attentively; and wherefore have ye not been afraid to speak against My servant--against Moses?'

9And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against them; and he departed.

9And being angry with them he went away:

9And burning with wrath against them, the Lord went away.

9And the anger of Jehovah burneth against them, and He goeth on,

10And the cloud removed from over the Tent; and, behold, Miriam was leprous, as white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.

10The cloud also that was over the tabernacle departed: and behold Mary appeared white as snow with a leprosy. And when Aaron had looked on her, and saw her all covered with leprosy,

10And the cloud was moved from over the Tent; and straight away Miriam became a leper, as white as snow: and Aaron, looking at Miriam, saw that she was a leper.

10and the cloud hath turned aside from off the tent, and lo, Miriam <FI>is<Fi> leprous as snow; and Aaron turneth unto Miriam, and lo, leprous!

11And Aaron said unto Moses, Oh, my lord, lay not, I pray thee, sin upon us, for that we have done foolishly, and for that we have sinned.

11He said to Moses: I beseech thee, my lord, lay not upon us this sin, which we have foolishly committed:

11Then Aaron said to Moses, O my lord, let not our sin be on our heads, for we have done foolishly and are sinners.

11And Aaron saith unto Moses, `O, my lord, I pray thee, lay not upon us sin <FI>in<Fi> which we have been foolish, and <FI>in<Fi> which we have sinned;

12Let her not, I pray, be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he cometh out of his mother’s womb.

12Let her not be as one dead, and as an abortive that is cast forth from the mother's womb. Lo, now one half of her flesh is consumed with the leprosy.

12Let her not be as one dead, whose flesh is half wasted when he comes out from the body of his mother.

12let her not, I pray thee, be as <FI>one<Fi> dead, when in his coming out from the womb of his mother--the half of his flesh is consumed.'

13And Moses cried unto Jehovah, saying, Heal her, O God, I beseech thee.

13And Moses cried to the Lord, saying O God, I beseech thee heal her.

13And Moses, crying to the Lord, said, Let my prayer come before you, O God, and make her well.

13And Moses crieth unto Jehovah, saying, `O God, I pray Thee, give, I pray Thee, healing to her.'

14And Jehovah said unto Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut up without the camp seven days, and after that she shall be brought in again.

14And the Lord answered him: If her father had spitten upon her face, ought she not to have been ashamed for seven days at least? Let her be separated seven days without the camp, and afterwards she shall be called again.

14And the Lord said to Moses, If her father had put a mark of shame on her, would she not be shamed for seven days? Let her be shut up outside the tent-circle for seven days, and after that she may come in again.

14And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `And her father had but spat in her face--is she not ashamed seven days? she is shut out seven days at the outside of the camp, and afterwards she is gathered.'

15And Miriam was shut up without the camp seven days: and the people journeyed not till Miriam was brought in again.

15Mary therefore was put out of the camp seven days: and the people moved not from that place until Mary was called again.

15So Miriam was shut up outside the tent-circle for seven days: and the people did not go forward on their journey till Miriam had come in again.

15And Miriam is shut out at the outside of the camp seven days, and the people hath not journeyed till Miriam is gathered;

16And afterward the people journeyed from Hazeroth, and encamped in the wilderness of Paran.

16(not in this translation)

16After that, the people went on from Hazeroth and put up their tents in the waste land of Paran.

16and afterwards have the people journeyed from Hazeroth, and they encamp in the wilderness of Paran.
