1And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,

1The LORD said to Moses,

2Make thee two trumpets of silver; of beaten work shalt thou make them: and thou shalt use them for the calling of the congregation, and for the journeying of the camps.

2'Make two trumpets of hammered silver. Use them to call the people together and to give the signal for the camps to move out.'

3And when they shall blow them, all the congregation shall gather themselves unto thee at the door of the tent of meeting.

3'When both trumpets are blown, the whole community must gather before you at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.'

4And if they blow but one, then the princes, the heads of the thousands of Israel, shall gather themselves unto thee.

4'If only one trumpet is blown, then just the leaders—the heads of the clans of Israel—shall gather before you.'

5And when ye blow an alarm, the camps that lie on the east side shall take their journey.

5'When you blow a loud signal, the tribes camped on the east side are to move out.'

6And when ye blow an alarm the second time, the camps that lie on the south side shall take their journey: they shall blow an alarm for their journeys.

6'When you blow a second loud signal, the tribes camped on the south side are to move out. A loud signal is the sign for them to start their journey.'

7But when the assembly is to be gathered together, ye shall blow, but ye shall not sound an alarm.

7'To call the assembly together, you should blow the trumpets, but do not give the same loud signal used for moving out.'

8And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets; and they shall be to you for a statute for ever throughout your generations.

8'The sons of Aaron, the priests, are the ones who will blow the trumpets. This is a permanent law for you and your descendants.'

9And when ye go to war in your land against the adversary that oppresseth you, then ye shall sound an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before Jehovah your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.

9'When you go to war in your own land against an enemy who attacks you, sound a loud signal on the trumpets. Then the LORD your God will remember you and rescue you from your enemies.'

10Also in the day of your gladness, and in your set feasts, and in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow the trumpets over your burnt-offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace-offerings; and they shall be to you for a memorial before your God: I am Jehovah your God.

10'Also, blow the trumpets during your times of celebration, at your fixed festivals, and at the beginning of each month. Blow them over your burnt offerings and your peace offerings. They will serve as a reminder of you before your God. I am the LORD your God.'
