1Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judæa in the days of Herod the king, behold, Wise-men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying,
1After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, wise men from the east arrived in Jerusalem.
2Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we saw his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
2They asked, 'Where is the baby who has been born King of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.'
3And when Herod the king heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
3When King Herod heard this, he was deeply disturbed, and everyone in Jerusalem was worried with him.
4And gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ should be born.
4He called together all the leading priests and religious scholars and asked them where the Messiah was supposed to be born.
5And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judæa: for thus it is written through the prophet,
5They told him, 'In Bethlehem in Judea, because this is what the prophet wrote:
6And thou Bethlehem, land of Judah, Art in no wise least among the princes of Judah: For out of thee shall come forth a governor, Who shall be shepherd of my people Israel.
6"And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means the least among the leaders of Judah; for a ruler will come from you who will be the shepherd for my people Israel."'
7Then Herod privily called the Wise-men, and learned of them exactly what time the star appeared.
7Then Herod met secretly with the wise men and found out from them exactly when the star had first appeared.
8And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search out exactly concerning the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word, that I also may come and worship him.
8He sent them to Bethlehem and said, 'Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report back to me so that I can go and worship him too.'
9And they, having heard the king, went their way; and lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
9After listening to the king, they went on their way. The star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was.
10And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
10When they saw the star, they were filled with tremendous joy.
11And they came into the house and saw the young child with Mary his mother; and they fell down and worshipped him; and opening their treasures they offered unto him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.
11They went into the house and saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
12And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
12Having been warned by God in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their own country by a different route.
13Now when they were departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I tell thee: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
13After they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, 'Get up, take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, because Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.'
14And he arose and took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt;
14So Joseph got up, took the child and his mother during the night, and left for Egypt.走向埃及。
15and was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt did I call my son.
15He stayed there until Herod died. This fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: 'I called my son out of Egypt.'
16Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the Wise-men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the male children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the borders thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had exactly learned of the Wise-men.
16When Herod realized the wise men had outsmarted him, he flew into a rage. He gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and the surrounding area who were two years old and under, based on the timeframe he had learned from the wise men.
17Then was fulfilled that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying,
17Then what the prophet Jeremiah had said came true:
18A voice was heard in Ramah, Weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children; And she would not be comforted, because they are not.
18'A cry was heard in Ramah, weeping and loud mourning. Rachel was crying for her children; she refused to be comforted because they were gone.'
19But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying,
19After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt.
20Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead that sought the young child’s life.
20The angel said, 'Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, because those who were trying to kill the child are dead.'
21And he arose and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
21So Joseph got up, took the child and his mother, and went back to the land of Israel.
22But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judæa in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither; and being warned of God in a dream, he withdrew into the parts of Galilee,
22But when he heard that Archelaus was ruling over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Having been warned in a dream, he went to the region of Galilee instead.
