What Luke 22:63 means

The men holding Jesus mock and beat Him. Physical violence and derision combine to degrade the innocent One. Their cruelty fulfills the “hour of darkness” He acknowledged. The Lord who healed an enemy’s ear now receives blows from enemies’ hands. This suffering is unjust, yet He endures it silently, committing Himself to the Father. The verse illustrates human depravity aligned against God’s Anointed, and the meekness of the Servant who does not retaliate. Behind their hands stands the larger spiritual conflict; yet Jesus remains the true King, even veiled in shame. His patient endurance under abuse is part of His atoning path, bearing reproach and pain for the sake of those He will save.

Context

After Peter’s weeping, the narrative returns to Jesus’ captivity. The men guarding Him begin to mock and strike Him, initiating a series of abuses that continue through the night. The next verses add blindfolding and taunts to prophesy who struck Him, along with many other reviling words. This sets a tone of contempt and injustice leading into the morning, when the formal council of elders, chief priests, and scribes convenes to interrogate Jesus about His identity.

v.62And he went out, and wept bitterly.

v.63This passage

v.64And they blindfolded him, and asked him, saying, Prophesy: who is he that struck thee?
