What Luke 10:1 means

After earlier events Luke records, Jesus appoints seventy others and sends them in pairs ahead of him to every town and place he intended to visit. This means Jesus commissions a wider circle of followers to prepare the way for his ministry. Sending them two by two stresses companionship, mutual support, and witness. The task is urgent and relational: they go into the very places Jesus plans to enter, acting as advance messengers who carry authority and represent his presence before he arrives.
