Job 34

1And Elihu made answer and said,

1And Eliu continued his discourse, and said:

1And Elihu answereth and saith:

1Moreover Elihu answered and said,

2Give ear, you wise, to my words; and you who have knowledge, give attention to me;

2Hear ye, wise men, my words, and ye learned, hearken to me:

2Hear, O wise men, my words, And, O knowing ones, give ear to me.

2Hear my words, ye wise [men]; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.

3For words are tested by the ear, as food is tasted by the mouth.

3For the ear trieth words, and the mouth discerneth meats by the taste.

3For the ear doth try words, And the palate tasteth to eat.

3For the ear trieth words, as the palate tasteth food.

4Let us make the decision for ourselves as to what is right; let us have the knowledge among ourselves of what is good.

4Let us choose to us judgment, and let us see among ourselves what is the best.

4Judgment let us choose for ourselves, Let us know among ourselves what <FI>is<Fi> good.

5For Job has said, I am upright, and it is God who has taken away my right;

5For Job hath said: I am just, and God hath overthrown my judgment.

5For Job hath said, `I have been righteous, And God hath turned aside my right,

6Though I am right, still I am in pain; my wound may not be made well, though I have done no wrong.

6For in judging me there is a lie: my arrow is violent without any sin.

6Against my right do I lie? Mortal <FI>is<Fi> mine arrow--without transgression.'

6Should I lie against my right? My wound is incurable without transgression.

7What man is like Job, a man who freely makes sport of God,

7What man is there like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?

7Who <FI>is<Fi> a man like Job? He drinketh scoffing like water,

7What man is like Job? he drinketh up scorning like water,

8And goes in the company of evil-doers, walking in the way of sinners?

8Who goeth in company with them that work iniquity, and walketh with wicked men?

8And he hath travelled for company With workers of iniquity, So as to go with men of wickedness.

9For he has said, It is no profit to a man to take delight in God.

9For he hath said: Man shall not please God, although he run with him.

9For he hath said, `It doth not profit a man, When he delighteth himself with God.'

9For he hath said, It profiteth not a man if he delight himself inGod.

10Now then, you wise, take note; you men of knowledge, give ear to me. Let it be far from God to do evil, and from the Ruler of all to do wrong.

10Therefore, ye men of understanding, hear me: far from God be wickedness, and iniquity from the Almighty.

10Therefore, O men of heart, hearken to me; Far be it from God to do wickedness, And <FI>from<Fi> the Mighty to do perverseness:

10Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: Far be wickedness fromGod, and wrong from the Almighty!

11For he gives to every man the reward of his work, and sees that he gets the fruit of his ways.

11For he will render to a man his work, and according to the ways of every one he will reward them.

11For the work of man he repayeth to him, And according to the path of each He doth cause him to find.

11For a man's work will he render to him, and cause every one to find according to [his] way.

12Truly, God does not do evil, and the Ruler of all is not a false judge.

12For in very deed God will not condemn without cause, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.

12Yea, truly, God doth not do wickedly, And the Mighty doth not pervert judgment.

12Yea, surely,God acteth not wickedly, and the Almighty perverteth not judgment.

13Who put the earth into his care, or made him responsible for the world?

13What other hath he appointed over the earth? or whom hath he set over the world which he made?

13Who hath inspected for Himself the earth? And who hath placed all the habitable world?

13Who hath entrusted to him the earth? and who hath disposed the whole world?

14If he made his spirit come back to him, taking his breath into himself again,

14If he turn his heart to him, he shall draw his spirit and breath unto himself.

14If He doth set on him His heart, His spirit and his breath unto Him He gathereth.

14If he only thought of himself, [and] gathered unto him his spirit and his breath,

15All flesh would come to an end together, and man would go back to the dust.

15All flesh shall perish together, and man shall return into ashes.

15Expire doth all flesh together, And man to dust returneth.

15All flesh would expire together, and man would return to the dust.

16If you are wise, take note of this; give ear to the voice of my words.

16If then thou hast understanding, hear what is said, and hearken to the voice of my words.

16And if <FI>there is<Fi> understanding, hear this, Give ear to the voice of my words.

16If now [thou hast] understanding, hear this: give ear to the voice of my words!

17How may a hater of right be a ruler? and will you say that the upright Ruler of all is evil?

17Can he be healed that loveth not judgment? and how dost thou so far condemn him that is just?

17Yea, doth one hating justice govern? Or the Most Just dost thou condemn?

17Should he that hateth right indeed govern? and wilt thou condemn the All-just?

18He who says to a king, You are an evil-doer; and to rulers, You are sinners;

18Who saith to the king: Thou art an apostate: who calleth rulers ungodly:

18Who hath said to a king--`Worthless,' Unto princes--`Wicked?'

18Shall one say to a king, Belial? to nobles, Wicked?

19Who has no respect for rulers, and who gives no more attention to those who have wealth than to the poor, for they are all the work of his hands.

19Who accepteth not the persons of princes: nor hath regarded the tyrant, when he contended against the poor man: for all are the work of his hands.

19That hath not accepted the person of princes, Nor hath known the rich before the poor, For a work of His hands <FI>are<Fi> all of them.

19[How then to him] that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich man more than the poor? for they are all the work of his hands.

20Suddenly they come to an end, even in the middle of the night: the blow comes on the men of wealth, and they are gone, and the strong are taken away without the hand of man.

20They shall suddenly die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and they shall pass, and take away the violent without hand.

20<FI> In<Fi> a moment they die, and at midnight Shake do people, and they pass away, And they remove the mighty without hand.

20In a moment they die, even at midnight the people are convulsed and pass away; and the strong are taken away without hand.

21For his eyes are on the ways of a man, and he sees all his steps.

21For his eyes are upon the ways of men, and he considereth all their steps.

21For His eyes <FI>are<Fi> on the ways of each, And all his steps He doth see.

21For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his steps.

22There is no dark place, and no thick cloud, in which the workers of evil may take cover.

22There is no darkness, and there is no shadow of death, where they may be hid who work iniquity.

22There is no darkness nor death-shade, For workers of iniquity to be hidden there;

22There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

23For he does not give man a fixed time to come before him to be judged.

23For it is no longer in the power of man to enter into judgment with God.

23For He doth not suffer man any more, To go unto God in judgment,

23For he doth not long consider a man, to bring him beforeGod in judgment.

24He sends the strong to destruction without searching out their cause, and puts others in their place.

24He shall break in pieces many and innumerable, and shall make others to stand in their stead.

24He breaketh the mighty--no searching! And He appointeth others in their stead.

24He breaketh in pieces mighty men without inquiry, and setteth others in their stead;

25For he has knowledge of their works, overturning them in the night, so that they are crushed.

25For he knoweth their works: and therefore he shall bring night on them, and they shall be destroyed.

25Therefore He knoweth their works, And He hath overturned by night, And they are bruised.

25Since he knoweth their actions; and he overthroweth [them] in the night, and they are crushed.

26The evil-doers are broken by his wrath, he puts his hand on them with force before the eyes of all onlookers.

26He hath struck them, as being wicked, in open sight.

26As wicked He hath stricken them, In the place of beholders.

26He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others,

27Because they did not go after him, and took no note of his ways,

27Who as it were on purpose have revolted from him, and would not understand all his ways:

27Because that against right They have turned aside from after Him, And none of His ways have considered wisely,

27Because they have turned back from him, and would consider none of his ways;

28So that the cry of the poor might come up to him, and the prayer of those in need come to his ears.

28So that they caused the cry of the needy to come to him, and he heard the voice of the poor.

28To cause to come in unto Him The cry of the poor, And the cry of the afflicted He heareth.

28So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.

29...

29For when he granteth peace, who is there that can condemn? When he hideth his countenance, who is there that can behold him, whether it regard nations, or all men?

29And He giveth rest, and who maketh wrong? And hideth the face, and who beholdeth it? And in reference to a nation and to a man, <FI>It is<Fi> the same.

29When he giveth quietness, who then will disturb? and when he hideth [his] face, who shall behold him? and this towards a nation, or towards a man alike;

30Who maketh a man that is a hypocrite to reign for the sins of the people.

30From the reigning of a profane man, From the snares of a people;

30That the ungodly man reign not, that the people be not ensnared.

31...

31Seeing then I have spoken of God, I will not hinder thee in thy turn.

31For unto God hath any said: `I have taken away, I do not corruptly,

31For hath he said untoGod, I bear [chastisement], I will not offend;

32...

32If I have erred, teach thou me: if I have spoken iniquity, I will add no more.

32Besides <FI>that which<Fi> I see, shew Thou me, If iniquity I have done--I do not add?'

32What I see not, teach thou me; if I have done wrong, I will do so no more?

33...

33Doth God require it of thee, because it hath displeased thee? for thou begannest to speak, and not I: but if thou know any thing better, speak.

33By thee doth He recompense, That thou hast refused--That thou dost choose, and not I? And what thou hast known, speak.

33Shall he recompense according to thy mind? for thou hast refused [his judgment]; for thou so choosest, and not I; speak then what thou knowest.

34Men of knowledge, and all wise men, hearing me, will say,

34Let men of understanding speak to me, and let a wise man hearken to me.

34Let men of heart say to me, And a wise man is hearkening to me.

34Men of understanding will say to me, and a wise man who heareth me:

35Job's words do not come from knowledge; they are not the fruit of wisdom.

35But Job hath spoken foolishly, and his words sound not discipline.

35Job--not with knowledge doth he speak, And his words <FI>are<Fi> not with wisdom.

35Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words were not with intelligence.

36May Job be tested to the end, because his answers have been like those of evil men.

36My father, let Job be tried even to the end: cease not from the man of iniquity.

36My Father! let Job be tried--unto victory, Because of answers for men of iniquity,

36Would that Job may be tried unto the end, because of [his] answers after the manner of evil men!

37For in addition to his sin, he is uncontrolled in heart; before our eyes he makes sport of God, increasing his words against him.

37Because he addeth blasphemy upon his sins, let him be tied fast in the mean time amongst us: and then let him provoke God to judgment with his speeches.

37For he doth add to his sin, Transgression among us he vomiteth, And multiplieth his sayings to God.

37For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth [his hands] among us, and multiplieth his words againstGod.
