Job 33

1Howbeit, Job, I pray thee, hear mine utterances, and hearken to all my words.

1And yet, I pray thee, O Job, Hear my speech and <FI>to<Fi> all my words give ear.

1And now, O Job, give ear to my words, and take note of all I say.

1Hear therefore, O Job, my speeches, and hearken to all my words.

2Behold now, I have opened my mouth, my tongue speaketh in my palate,

2Lo, I pray thee, I have opened my mouth, My tongue hath spoken in the palate.

2See, now my mouth is open, my tongue gives out words.

2Behold now I have opened my mouth, let my tongue speak within my jaws.

3My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart, and my lips shall utter knowledge purely.

3Of the uprightness of my heart <FI>are<Fi> my sayings, And knowledge have my lips clearly spoken.

3My heart is overflowing with knowledge, my lips say what is true.

3My words are from my upright heart, and my lips shall speak a pure sentence.

4The Spirit ofGod hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

4The Spirit of God hath made me, And the breath of the Mighty doth quicken me.

4The spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Ruler of all gives me life.

5If thou canst, answer me; array [thy words] before me: take thy stand.

5If thou art able--answer me, Set in array before me--station thyself.

5If you are able, give me an answer; put your cause in order, and come forward.

6Behold, beforeGod I am as thou; I also am formed out of the clay.

6Lo, I <FI>am<Fi> , according to thy word, for God, From the clay I--I also, have been formed.

6See, I am the same as you are in the eyes of God; I was cut off from the same bit of wet earth.

6Behold God hath made me as well as thee, and of the same clay I also was formed.

7Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, nor my burden be heavy upon thee.

7Lo, my terror doth not frighten thee, And my burden on thee is not heavy.

7Fear of me will not overcome you, and my hand will not be hard on you.

7But yet let not my wonder terrify thee, and let not my eloquence be burdensome to thee.

8Surely thou hast spoken in my hearing, and I have heard the voice of [thy] words: —

8Surely--thou hast said in mine ears, And the sounds of words I hear:

8But you said in my hearing, and your voice came to my ears:

8Now thou hast said in my hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words:

9I am clean without transgression; I am pure, and there is no iniquity in me;

9`Pure <FI>am<Fi> I, without transgression, Innocent <FI>am<Fi> I, and I have no iniquity.

9I am clean, without sin; I am washed, and there is no evil in me:

9I am clean, and without sin: I am unspotted, and there is no iniquity in me.

10Lo, he findeth occasions of hostility against me, he counteth me for his enemy;

10Lo, occasions against me He doth find, He doth reckon me for an enemy to Him,

10See, he is looking for something against me; in his eyes I am as one of his haters;

10Because he hath found complaints against me, therefore he hath counted me for his enemy.

11He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.

11He doth put in the stocks my feet, He doth watch all my paths.'

11He puts chains on my feet; he is watching all my ways.

11He hath put my feet in the stocks, he hath observed all my paths.

12Behold, I will answer thee in this, thou art not right; forGod is greater than man.

12Lo, <FI>in<Fi> this thou hast not been righteous, I answer thee, that greater is God than man.

12Truly, in saying this you are wrong; for God is greater than man.

12Now this is the thing in which thou art not justified: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.

13Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.

13Wherefore against Him hast thou striven, When <FI>for<Fi> all His matters He answereth not?

13Why do you put forward your cause against him, saying, He gives no answer to any of my words?

13Dost thou strive against him, because he hath not answered thee to all words?

14ForGod speaketh once, and twice, — [and man] perceiveth it not —

14For once doth God speak, and twice, (He doth not behold it.)

14For God gives his word in one way, even in two, and man is not conscious of it:

14God speaketh once, and repeateth not the selfsame thing the second time.

15In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;

15In a dream--a vision of night, In the falling of deep sleep on men, In slumberings on a bed.

15In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep comes on men, while they take their rest on their beds;

15By a dream in a vision by night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, and they are sleeping in their beds:

16Then he openeth men's ears, and sealeth their instruction,

16Then He uncovereth the ear of men, And for their instruction sealeth:

16Then he makes his secrets clear to men, so that they are full of fear at what they see;

16Then he openeth the ears of men, and teaching instructeth them in what they are to learn.

17That he may withdraw man [from his] work, and hide pride from man.

17To turn aside man <FI>from<Fi> doing, And pride from man He concealeth.

17In order that man may be turned from his evil works, and that pride may be taken away from him;

17That he may withdraw a man from the things he is doing, and may deliver him from pride.

18He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from passing away by the sword.

18He keepeth back his soul from corruption, And his life from passing away by a dart.

18To keep back his soul from the underworld, and his life from destruction.

18Rescuing his soul from corruption: and his life from passing to the sword.

19He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and with constant strife in his bones;

19And he hath been reproved With pain on his bed, And the strife of his bones <FI>is<Fi> enduring.

19Pain is sent on him as a punishment, while he is on his bed; there is no end to the trouble in his bones;

19He rebuketh also by sorrow in the bed, and he maketh all his bones to wither.

20And his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty food;

20And his life hath nauseated bread, And his soul desirable food.

20He has no desire for food, and his soul is turned away from delicate meat;

20Bread becometh abominable to him in his life, and to his soul the meat which before he desired.

21His flesh is consumed away from view, and his bones that were not seen stick out;

21His flesh is consumed from being seen, And high are his bones, they were not seen!

21His flesh is so wasted away, that it may not be seen, and his bones. ...

21His flesh shall be consumed away, and his bones that were covered shall be made bare.

22And his soul draweth near to the pit, and his life to the destroyers.

22And draw near to the pit doth his soul, And his life to those causing death.

22And his soul comes near to the underworld, and his life to the angels of death.

22His soul hath drawn near to corruption, and his life to the destroyers.

23If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his duty;

23If there is by him a messenger, An interpreter--one of a thousand, To declare for man his uprightness:

23If now there may be an angel sent to him, one of the thousands which there are to be between him and God, and to make clear to man what is right for him;

23If there shall be an angel speaking for him, one among thousands, to declare man's uprightness,

24Then he will be gracious unto him, and say, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.

24Then He doth favour him and saith, `Ransom him from going down to the pit, I have found an atonement.'

24And if he has mercy on him, and says, Let him not go down to the underworld, I have given the price for his life:

24He shall have mercy on him, and shall say: Deliver him, that he may not go down to corruption: I have found wherein I may be merciful to him.

25His flesh shall be fresher than in childhood; he shall return to the days of his youth.

25Fresher <FI>is<Fi> his flesh than a child's, He returneth to the days of his youth.

25Then his flesh becomes young again, and he comes back to the days of his early strength;

25His flesh is consumed with punishments, let him return to the days of his youth.

26He shall pray untoGod, and he will receive him with favour; and he shall see his face with shoutings, and he will render unto man his righteousness.

26He maketh supplication unto God, And He accepteth him. And he seeth His face with shouting, And He returneth to man His righteousness.

26He makes his prayer to God, and he has mercy on him; he sees God's face with cries of joy; he gives news of his righteousness to men;

26He shall pray to God, and he will be gracious to him: and he shall see his face with joy, and he will render to man his justice.

27He will sing before men, and say, I have sinned, and perverted what was right, and it hath not been requited to me;

27He looketh on men, and saith, `I sinned, And uprightness I have perverted, And it hath not been profitable to me.

27He makes a song, saying, I did wrong, turning from the straight way, but he did not give me the reward of my sin.

27He shall look upon men, and shall say: I have sinned, and indeed I have offended, and I have not received what I have deserved.

28He hath delivered my soul from going into the pit, and my life shall see the light.

28He hath ransomed my soul From going over into the pit, And my life on the light looketh.'

28He kept my soul from the underworld, and my life sees the light in full measure.

28He hath delivered his soul from going into destruction, that it may live and see the light.

29Lo, all these [things] workethGod twice, thrice, with man,

29Lo, all these doth God work, Twice--thrice with man,

29Truly, God does all these things to man, twice and three times,

29Behold, all these things God worketh three times within every one.

30To bring back his soul from the pit, that he may be enlightened with the light of the living.

30To bring back his soul from the pit, To be enlightened with the light of the living.

30Keeping back his soul from the underworld, so that he may see the light of life.

30That he may withdraw their souls from corruption, and enlighten them with the light of the living.

31Mark well, Job, hearken unto me; be silent, and I will speak.

31Attend, O Job, hearken to me, Keep silent, and I--I do speak.

31Take note O Job, give ear to me; keep quiet, while I say what is in my mind.

31Attend, Job, and hearken to me, and hold thy peace, whilst I speak.

32If thou hast anything to say, answer me; speak, for I desire to justify thee.

32If there are words--answer me, Speak, for I have a desire to justify thee.

32If you have anything to say, give me an answer; for it is my desire that you may be judged free from sin.

32But if thou hast any thing to say, answer me, speak: for I would have thee to appear just.

33If not, hearken thou unto me; be silent, and I will teach thee wisdom.

33If there are not--hearken thou to me, Keep silent, and I teach thee wisdom.

33If not, give attention to me, and keep quiet, and I will give you wisdom.

33And if thou have not, hear me: hold thy peace, and I will teach thee wisdom.
