Job 27

1Job also added, taking up his parable, and said:

1And Job continued his parable and said,

1And Job addeth to lift up his simile, and saith: --

1And Job again took up the word and said,

2As God liveth, who hath taken away my judgment, and the Almighty, who hath brought my soul to bitterness,

2[As]God liveth, who hath taken away my right, and the Almighty, who hath embittered my soul,

2God liveth! He turned aside my judgment, And the Mighty--He made my soul bitter.

2By the life of God, who has taken away my right; and of the Ruler of all, who has made my soul bitter;

3As long as breath remaineth in me, and the spirit of God in my nostrils,

3All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit ofGod is in my nostrils,

3For all the while my breath <FI>is<Fi> in me, And the spirit of God in my nostrils.

3(For all my breath is still in me, and the spirit of God is my life;)

4My lips shall not speak iniquity, neither shall my tongue contrive lying.

4My lips shall not speak unrighteousness, nor my tongue utter deceit!

4My lips do not speak perverseness, And my tongue doth not utter deceit.

4Truly, there is no deceit in my lips, and my tongue does not say what is false.

5God forbid that I should judge you to be just: till I die I will not depart from my innocence.

5Be it far from me that I should justify you; till I die I will not remove my blamelessness from me.

5Pollution to me--if I justify you, Till I expire I turn not aside mine integrity from me.

5Let it be far from me! I will certainly not say that you are right! I will come to death before I give up my righteousness.

6My justification, which I have begun to hold, I will not forsake: for my heart doth not reprehend me in all my life.

6My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: my heart reproacheth [me] not one of my days.

6On my righteousness I have laid hold, And I do not let it go, My heart doth not reproach me while I live.

6I will keep it safe, and will not let it go: my heart has nothing to say against any part of my life.

7Let my enemy be as the ungodly, and my adversary as the wicked one.

7Let mine enemy be as the wicked, and he that riseth up against me as the unrighteous.

7As the wicked is my enemy, And my withstander as the perverse.

7Let my hater be like the evil man, and let him who comes against me be as the sinner.

8For what is the hope of the hypocrite if through covetousness he take by violence, and God deliver not his soul?

8For what is the hope of the ungodly, when [God] cutteth him off, whenGod taketh away his soul?

8For what <FI>is<Fi> the hope of the profane, When He doth cut off? When God doth cast off his soul?

8For what is the hope of the sinner when he is cut off, when God takes back his soul?

9Will God hear his cry, when distress shall come upon him?

9WillGod hear his cry when distress cometh upon him?

9His cry doth God hear, When distress cometh on him?

9Will his cry come to the ears of God when he is in trouble?

10Or can he delight himself in the Almighty, and call upon God at all times?

10Doth he delight himself in the Almighty? will he at all times call uponGod?

10On the Mighty doth he delight himself? Call God at all times?

10Will he take delight in the Ruler of all, and make his prayer to God at all times?

11I will teach you by the hand of God, what the Almighty hath, and I will not conceal it.

11I will teach you concerning the hand ofGod; what is with the Almighty will I not conceal.

11I shew you by the hand of God, That which <FI>is<Fi> with the Mighty I hide not.

11I will give you teaching about the hand of God; I will not keep secret from you what is in the mind of the Ruler of all.

12Behold you all know it, and why do you speak vain things without cause?

12Behold, ye yourselves have all seen [it]; and why are ye thus altogether vain?

12Lo, ye--all of you--have seen, And why <FI>is<Fi> this--ye are altogether vain?

12Truly, you have all seen it yourselves; why then have you become completely foolish?

13This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the inheritance of the violent, which they shall receive of the Almighty.

13This is the portion of the wicked man withGod, and the heritage of the violent, which they receive from the Almighty: —

13This <FI>is<Fi> the portion of wicked man with God, And the inheritance of terrible ones From the Mighty they receive.

13This is the punishment of the evil-doer from God, and the heritage given to the cruel by the Ruler of all.

14If his sons be multiplied, they shall be for the sword, and his grandsons shall not be filled with bread.

14If his children be multiplied, it is for the sword, and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread;

14If his sons multiply--for them <FI>is<Fi> a sword. And his offspring <FI>are<Fi> not satisfied <FI>with<Fi> bread.

14If his children are increased, it is for the sword; and his offspring have not enough bread.

15They that shall remain of him, shall be buried in death, and his widows shall not weep.

15Those that remain of him shall be buried by death, and his widows shall not weep.

15His remnant in death are buried, And his widows do not weep.

15When those of his house who are still living come to their end by disease, they are not put into the earth, and their widows are not weeping for them.

16If he shall heap together silver as earth, and prepare raiment as clay,

16Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare clothing as the clay;

16If he heap up as dust silver, And as clay prepare clothing,

16Though he may get silver together like dust, and make ready great stores of clothing;

17He shall prepare indeed, but the just man shall be clothed with it: and the innocent shall divide the silver.

17He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on; and the innocent shall divide the silver.

17He prepareth--and the righteous putteth <FI>it<Fi> on, And the silver the innocent doth apportion.

17He may get them ready, but the upright will put them on, and he who is free from sin will take the silver for a heritage.

18He hath built his house as a moth, and as a keeper he hath made a booth.

18He buildeth his house as the moth, and as a booth that a keeper maketh.

18He hath built as a moth his house, And as a booth a watchman hath made.

18His house has no more strength than a spider's thread, or a watchman's tent.

19The rich man when he shall sleep shall take away nothing with him: he shall open his eyes and find nothing.

19He lieth down rich, but will do so no more; he openeth his eyes, and he is not.

19Rich he lieth down, and he is not gathered, His eyes he hath opened, and he is not.

19He goes to rest full of wealth, but does so for the last time: on opening his eyes, he sees it there no longer.

20Poverty like water shall take hold on him, a tempest shall oppress him in the night:

20Terrors overtake him like waters; a whirlwind stealeth him away in the night.

20Overtake him as waters do terrors, By night stolen him away hath a whirlwind.

20Fears overtake him like rushing waters; in the night the storm-wind takes him away.

21A burning wind shall take him up, and carry him away, and as a whirlwind shall snatch him from his place.

21The east wind carrieth him away and he is gone; and as a storm it hurleth him out of his place.

21Take him up doth an east wind, and he goeth, And it frighteneth him from his place,

21The east wind takes him up and he is gone; he is forced violently out of his place.

22And he shall cast upon him, and shall not spare: out of his hand he would willingly flee.

22And [God] shall cast upon him and not spare: he would fain flee out of his hand.

22And it casteth at him, and doth not spare, From its hand he diligently fleeth.

22God sends his arrows against him without mercy; he goes in flight before his hand.

23He shall clasp his hands upon him, and shall hiss at him, beholding his place.

23[Men] shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.

23It clappeth at him its hands, And it hisseth at him from his place.

23Men make signs of joy because of him, driving him from his place with sounds of hissing.
