1In that day Jehovah, with his sore and great and strong sword, will visit leviathan the fleeing serpent, and leviathan the crooked serpent; and he will slay the monster that is in the sea.
1In that day the Lord with his hard, and great, and strong sword shall visit leviathan the bar serpent, and leviathan the crooked serpent, and shall slay the whale that is in the sea.
1In that day the Lord, with his great and strong and cruel sword, will send punishment on Leviathan, the quick-moving snake, and on Leviathan, the twisted snake; and he will put to death the dragon which is in the sea.
2In that day [there shall be] a vineyard of pure wine; sing concerning it:
2In that day there shall be singing to the vineyard of pure wine.
2In that day it will be said, A vine-garden of delight, make a song about it.
3I Jehovah keep it, I will water it every moment; lest any harm it, I will keep it night and day.
3I am the Lord that keep it, I will suddenly give it drink: lest any hurt come to it, I keep it night and day.
3I, the Lord, am watching it; I will give it water at all times: I will keep it night and day, for fear that any damage comes to it.
4Fury is not in me. Oh that I had briars [and] thorns in battle against me! I would march against them, I would burn them together.
4There is no indignation in me: who shall make me a thorn and a brier in battle: shall I march against it, shall, I set it on fire together?
4My passion is over: if the thorns were fighting against me, I would make an attack on them, and they would be burned up together.
5Or let him take hold of my strength; let him make peace with me: [yea,] let him make peace with me.
5Or rather shall it take hold of my strength, shall it make peace with me, shall it make peace with me?
5Or let him put himself under my power, and make peace with me.
6In the future Jacob shall take root; Israel shall blossom and bud, and they shall fill the face of the world with fruit.
6When they shall rush in unto Jacob, Israel shall blossom and bud, and they shall fill the face of the world with seed.
6In days to come Jacob will take root: Israel will put out buds and flowers; and the face of the world will be full of fruit.
7Hath he smitten him according to the smiting of those that smote him? Is he slain according to the slaughter of those slain by him?
7Hath he struck him according to the stroke of him that struck him? or is he slain, as he killed them that were slain by him?
7Is his punishment like the punishment of those who overcame him? or are his dead as great in number as those he put to the sword?
8In measure, when sending her away, didst thou contend with her: he hath taken [her] away with his rough wind in the day of the east wind.
8In measure against measure, when it shall be cast off, thou shalt judge it. He hath meditated with his severe spirit in the day of heat.
8Your anger against her has been made clear by driving her away; he has taken her away with his storm-wind in the day of his east wind.
9By this, therefore, shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged; and this is all the fruit of the taking away of his sin: when he shall make all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are crumbled in pieces, — the Asherahs and the sun-images shall not stand.
9Therefore upon this shall the iniquity of the house of Jacob be forgiven: and this is all the fruit, that the sin thereof should be taken away, when he shall have made all the stones of the altar, as burnt stones broken in pieces, the groves and temples shall not stand.
9So by this will the sin of Jacob be covered, and this is all the fruit of taking away his punishment; when all the stones of the altar are crushed together, so that the wood pillars and the sun-images will not be put up again.
10For the fortified city is solitary, a habitation abandoned and forsaken like a wilderness; there shall the calf feed, and there shall he lie down, and consume its boughs.
10For the strong city shall be desolate, the beautiful city shall be forsaken, and shall be left as a wilderness: there the calf shall feed, and there shall he lie down, and shall consume its branches.
10For the strong town is without men, an unpeopled living-place; and she has become a waste land: there the young ox will take his rest, and its branches will be food for him.
11When its branches are withered they shall be broken off; women shall come [and] set them on fire. For it is a people of no intelligence; therefore he that made them will not have mercy on them, and he who formed them will shew them no favour.
11Its harvest shall be destroyed with drought, women shall come and teach it: for it is not a wise people, therefore he that made it, shall not have mercy on it: and he that formed it, shall not spare it.
11When its branches are dry they will be broken off; the women will come and put fire to them: for it is a foolish people; for this cause he who made them will have no mercy on them, and he whose work they are will not have pity on them.
12And it shall come to pass in that day, that Jehovah shall beat out from the flood of the river unto the torrent of Egypt, and ye shall be gathered one by one, [ye] children of Israel.
12And it shall come to pass, that in that day the Lord will strike from the channel of the river even to the torrent of Egypt, and you shall be gathered together one by one, O ye children of Israel.
12And it will be in that day that the Lord will get together his grain, from the River to the stream of Egypt, and you will be got together with care, O children of Israel.
13And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] the great trumpet shall be blown; and they shall come that were perishing in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts in the land of Egypt, and they shall worship Jehovah in the holy mountain at Jerusalem.
13And it shall come to pass, that in that day a noise shall be made with a great trumpet, and they that were lost, shall come from the land of the Assyrians, and they that were outcasts in the land of Egypt, and they shall adore the Lord in the holy mount in Jerusalem.
13And it will be in that day that a great horn will be sounded; and those who were wandering in the land of Assyria, and those who had been sent away into the land of Egypt, will come; and they will give worship to the Lord in the holy mountain at Jerusalem.
