What Genesis 18:30 means

Abraham, with a humble plea not to anger the Lord, continued his petition, dropping the number of righteous individuals to thirty. The Lord, demonstrating incredible patience and mercy, again agreed to spare the city if thirty righteous could be found within it. This persistent back-and-forth highlights the profound nature of Abraham's intercessory prayer and God's readiness to respond to the earnest appeals of His servant.

Context

This verse records Abraham's fourth proposition, where he lowers the number to thirty, immediately after the Lord's agreement for forty in verse 29. His respectful preface, "Oh let not the Lord be angry," shows his deference. The Lord's continued willingness to spare the city for a smaller number deepens the understanding of His mercy and encourages Abraham's courageous persistence in intercession.

v.29And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for the forty’s sake.

v.30This passage

v.31And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for the twenty’s sake.
