Context

This verse presents Abraham's third round of negotiation, where he reduces the number of righteous from forty-five to forty, directly following the Lord's agreement in verse 28. The Lord's consistent affirmative response continues to highlight His patience and mercy. This further lowering of the number intensifies the plea and continues to explore the limits of divine forbearance for the sake of the righteous.

v.28peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, I will not destroy it, if I find there forty and five.

v.29This passage

v.30And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there.
