What Ezra 2:53 means
The children of Barkos, Sisera, and Temah appear among the Nethinim. Some names echo figures known from Israel’s earlier history or neighboring peoples, but here they function as family identifiers within the servant class. Their presence underscores that temple operations drew on a broad base of households. By listing them, Ezra ensures their place in the public memory of the restoration and acknowledges their contribution to the renewed worship of God.

Context
This verse continues the penultimate wave of Nethinim names. One more verse will complete this group (v. 54). The narrative will then list the children of Solomon’s servants (vv. 55–58), a distinct but related servant class. After those, the chapter will handle genealogical uncertainties (vv. 59–63) before giving the grand totals and reporting the generous offerings that supported the temple’s reconstruction (vv. 64–70).
