1And Jehovah spake unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
1Then the LORD said to Moses, 'Go to Pharaoh and tell him: This is what the LORD says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me.'
2And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all thy borders with frogs:
2'If you refuse to let them go, I will plague your entire country with frogs.'
3and the river shall swarm with frogs, which shall go up and come into thy house, and into thy bedchamber, and upon thy bed, and into the house of thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thine ovens, and into thy kneading-troughs:
3'The Nile River will swarm with frogs. They will come up into your palace, into your bedroom and onto your bed, into the houses of your officials and your people, and even into your ovens and your mixing bowls.'
4and the frogs shall come up both upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon all thy servants.
4'The frogs will crawl all over you, your people, and all your officials.'
5And Jehovah said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch forth thy hand with thy rod over the rivers, over the streams, and over the pools, and cause frogs to come up upon the land of Egypt.
5Then the LORD said to Moses, 'Tell Aaron: Reach out your hand with your staff over the rivers, canals, and ponds, and make frogs come up onto the land of Egypt.'
6And Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt; and the frogs came up, and covered the land of Egypt.
6So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land.
7And the magicians did in like manner with their enchantments, and brought up frogs upon the land of Egypt.
7But the magicians did the same thing using their secret arts; they also made frogs come up onto the land of Egypt.
8Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, Entreat Jehovah, that he take away the frogs from me, and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may sacrifice unto Jehovah.
8Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron and said, 'Pray to the LORD to take the frogs away from me and my people, and I will let your people go to offer sacrifices to the LORD.'
9And Moses said unto Pharaoh, Have thou this glory over me: against what time shall I entreat for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, that the frogs be destroyed from thee and thy houses, and remain in the river only?
9Moses said to Pharaoh, 'I leave the honor to you: tell me when I should pray for you, your officials, and your people. Then the frogs will leave you and your houses and will only stay in the Nile.'
10And he said, Against to-morrow. And he said, Be it according to thy word; that thou mayest know that there is none like unto Jehovah our God.
10'Tomorrow,' Pharaoh said. Moses replied, 'It will be as you say, so that you may know there is no one like the LORD our God.'
11And the frogs shall depart from thee, and from thy houses, and from thy servants, and from thy people; they shall remain in the river only.
11'The frogs will leave you, your houses, your officials, and your people; they will remain only in the Nile.'
12And Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh: and Moses cried unto Jehovah concerning the frogs which he had brought upon Pharaoh.
12After Moses and Aaron left Pharaoh, Moses cried out to the LORD about the frogs he had brought on Pharaoh.
13And Jehovah did according to the word of Moses; and the frogs died out of the houses, out of the courts, and out of the fields.
13The LORD did what Moses asked. The frogs died in the houses, the courtyards, and the fields.
14And they gathered them together in heaps; and the land stank.
14They piled them high in heaps, and the land began to stink.
15But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he hardened his heart, and hearkened not unto them, as Jehovah had spoken.
15But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he became stubborn and would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said.
16And Jehovah said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch out thy rod, and smite the dust of the earth, that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt.
16Then the LORD said to Moses, 'Tell Aaron: Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the ground, and throughout the land of Egypt the dust will turn into gnats.'
17And they did so; and Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth, and there were lice upon man, and upon beast; all the dust of the earth became lice throughout all the land of Egypt.
17They did this, and when Aaron stretched out his hand with his staff and struck the dust of the ground, gnats came on people and animals. All the dust throughout the land of Egypt became gnats.
18And the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not: and there were lice upon man, and upon beast.
18The magicians tried to produce gnats by their secret arts, but they could not. Since the gnats were on people and animals everywhere,
19Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as Jehovah had spoken.
19the magicians said to Pharaoh, 'This is the finger of God.' But Pharaoh’s heart was hard and he would not listen, just as the LORD had said.
20And Jehovah said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh; lo, he cometh forth to the water; and say unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
20Then the LORD said to Moses, 'Get up early in the morning and confront Pharaoh as he goes to the river. Say to him: This is what the LORD says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me.'
21Else, if thou wilt not let my people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies upon thee, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thy houses: and the houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies, and also the ground whereon they are.
21'If you do not let my people go, I will send swarms of flies on you and your officials, on your people and into your houses. The houses of the Egyptians will be full of flies; even the ground will be covered with them.'
22And I will set apart in that day the land of Goshen, in which my people dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there; to the end thou mayest know that I am Jehovah in the midst of the earth.
22'But on that day I will deal differently with the land of Goshen, where my people live; no swarms of flies will be there. This way you will know that I, the LORD, am in this land.'
23And I will put a division between my people and thy people: by to-morrow shall this sign be.
23'I will make a distinction between my people and your people. This miraculous sign will happen tomorrow.'
24And Jehovah did so; and there came grievous swarms of flies into the house of Pharaoh, and into his servants’ houses: and in all the land of Egypt the land was corrupted by reason of the swarms of flies.
24The LORD did this. Thick swarms of flies poured into Pharaoh’s palace and into the houses of his officials; throughout Egypt the land was ruined by the flies.
25And Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron, and said, Go ye, sacrifice to your God in the land.
25Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron and said, 'Go, sacrifice to your God here in this land.'
26And Moses said, It is not meet so to do; for we shall sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians to Jehovah our God: lo, shall we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, and will they not stone us?
26But Moses said, 'That would not be right. The sacrifices we offer to the LORD our God would be detestable to the Egyptians. If we offer sacrifices they hate right in front of them, won't they stone us?'
27We will go three days’ journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to Jehovah our God, as he shall command us.
27'We must take a three-day journey into the wilderness to offer sacrifices to the LORD our God, as he commands us.'
28And Pharaoh said, I will let you go, that ye may sacrifice to Jehovah your God in the wilderness; only ye shall not go very far away: entreat for me.
28Pharaoh said, 'I will let you go to offer sacrifices to the LORD your God in the wilderness, but you must not go very far. Now pray for me.'
29And Moses said, Behold, I go out from thee, and I will entreat Jehovah that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people, to-morrow: only let not Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more in not letting the people go to sacrifice to Jehovah.
29Moses answered, 'As soon as I leave you, I will pray to the LORD, and tomorrow the flies will leave Pharaoh, his officials, and his people. Only make sure Pharaoh does not act deceitfully again by refusing to let the people go to sacrifice to the LORD.'
30And Moses went out from Pharaoh, and entreated Jehovah.
30Then Moses left Pharaoh and prayed to the LORD,
