1Children, do what is ordered by your fathers and mothers in the Lord: for this is right.

1Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is just.

2Give honour to your father and mother (which is the first rule having a reward),

2Honour thy father and thy mother, which is the first commandment with a promise:

3So that all may be well for you, and your life may be long on the earth.

3That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest be long lived upon earth.

4And, you fathers, do not make your children angry: but give them training in the teaching and fear of the Lord.

4And you, fathers, provoke not your children to anger: but bring them up in the discipline and correction of the Lord.

5Servants, do what is ordered by those who are your natural masters, having respect and fear for them, with all your heart, as to Christ;

5Servants, be obedient to them that are your lords according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in the simplicity of your heart, as to Christ.

6Not only under your master's eye, as pleasers of men; but as servants of Christ, doing the pleasure of God from the heart;

6Not serving to the eye, as it were pleasing men: but, as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart.

7Doing your work readily, as to the Lord, and not to men:

7With a good will serving, as to the Lord, and not to men.

8In the knowledge that for every good thing anyone does, he will have his reward from the Lord, If he is a servant or if he is free.

8Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man shall do, the same shall he receive from the Lord, whether he be bond or free.

9And, you masters, do the same things to them, not making use of violent words: in the knowledge that their Master and yours is in heaven, and he has no respect for a man's position.

9And you, masters, do the same things to them, forbearing threatenings: knowing that the Lord both of them and you is in heaven. And there is no respect of persons with him.

10Lastly, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his power.

10Finally, brethren, be strengthened in the Lord and in the might of his power.

11Take up God's instruments of war, so that you may be able to keep your position against all the deceits of the Evil One.

11Put you on the armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the deceits of the devil.

12For our fight is not against flesh and blood, but against authorities and powers, against the world-rulers of this dark night, against the spirits of evil in the heavens.

12For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places.

13For this reason take up all the arms of God, so that you may be able to be strong in the evil day, and, having done all, to keep your place.

13Therefore, take unto you the armour of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day and to stand in all things perfect.

14Take your place, then, having your body clothed with the true word, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness;

14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth and having on the breastplate of justice:

15Be ready with the good news of peace as shoes on your feet;

15And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.

16And most of all, using faith as a cover to keep off all the flaming arrows of the Evil One.

16In all things taking the shield of faith, wherewith you may be able to extinguish all the fiery darts of the most wicked one.

17And take salvation for your head-dress and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

17And take unto you the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit (which is the word of God).

18With prayers and deep desires, making requests at all times in the Spirit, and keeping watch, with strong purpose, in prayer for all the saints,

18By all prayer and supplication praying at all times in the spirit: and in the same watching with all instance and supplication for all the saints:

19And for me, that words may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make clear without fear the secret of the good news,

19And for me, that speech may be given me, that I may open my mouth with confidence, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

20For which I am a representative in chains, and that I may say without fear the things which it is right for me to say.

20For which I am an ambassador in a chain: so that therein I may be bold to speak according as I ought.

21But so that you may have knowledge of my business, and how I am, Tychicus, the well-loved brother and tested servant in the Lord, will give you news of all things:

21But that you also may know the things that concern me and what I am doing, Tychicus, my dearest brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will make known to you all things:

22Whom I have sent to you for this very purpose, so that you may have knowledge of our position, and that he may give comfort to your hearts.

22Whom I have sent to you for this same purpose: that you may know the things concerning us, and that he may comfort your hearts.

23Peace be to the brothers, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

23Peace be to the brethren and charity with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

24Grace be with all those who have true love for our Lord Jesus Christ.

24Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in incorruption. Amen.
