1And this is the blessing, wherewith Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death.

1This is the blessing that Moses, the man of God, gave to the Israelites before he died.

2And he said, Jehovah came from Sinai, And rose from Seir unto them; He shined forth from mount Paran, And he came from the ten thousands of holy ones: At his right hand was a fiery law for them.

2He said: 'The LORD came from Sinai and dawned on them from Seir; he shone forth from Mount Paran. He came with ten thousands of holy ones, with a flaming fire for them at his right hand.'

3Yea, he loveth the people; All his saints are in thy hand: And they sat down at thy feet; Every oneshall receive of thy words.

3Truly he loves the people; all his holy ones are in your hand. They sit down at your feet, and everyone receives your instructions.

4Moses commanded us a law, An inheritance for the assembly of Jacob.

4Moses gave us a law, a precious heritage for the assembly of Jacob.

5And he was king in Jeshurun, When the heads of the people were gathered, All the tribes of Israel together.

5The LORD was King over Jeshurun when the leaders of the people gathered together with all the tribes of Israel.

6Let Reuben live, and not die; Nor let his men be few.

6'Let the tribe of Reuben live and not die out, though its men be few in number.'

7And this isthe blessingof Judah: and he said, Hear, Jehovah, the voice of Judah, And bring him in unto his people. With his hands he contended for himself; And thou shalt be a help against his adversaries.

7He said this about Judah: 'Hear, O LORD, the cry of Judah, and bring him back to his people. With his own hands he fights for his cause; be a help to him against his enemies!'

8And of Levi he said, Thy Thummim and thy Urim are with thy godly one, Whom thou didst prove at Massah, With whom thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah;

8He said about Levi: 'Your Thummim and Urim belong to the man you favored, whom you tested at Massah and challenged at the waters of Meribah.

9Who said of his father, and of his mother, I have not seen him; Neither did he acknowledge his brethren, Nor knew he his own children: For they have observed thy word, And keep thy covenant.

9He said of his father and mother, "I do not care about them." He did not recognize his brothers or acknowledge his own children, because he obeyed your word and guarded your covenant.

10They shall teach Jacob thine ordinances, And Israel thy law: They shall put incense before thee, And whole burnt-offering upon thine altar.

10They will teach your regulations to Jacob and your law to Israel. They will offer incense before you and whole burnt offerings on your altar.

11Bless, Jehovah, his substance, And accept the work of his hands: Smite through the loins of them that rise up against him, And of them that hate him, that they rise not again.

11LORD, bless his skills and be pleased with the work of his hands. Strike the backs of those who rise up against him and those who hate him, so they never rise again.'

12Of Benjamin he said, The beloved of Jehovah shall dwell in safety by him; He covereth him all the day long, And he dwelleth between his shoulders.

12He said about Benjamin: 'The one the LORD loves will live in safety by him. The LORD protects him all day long, and he rests between the LORD's shoulders.'

13And of Joseph he said, Blessed of Jehovah be his land, For the precious things of heaven, for the dew, And for the deep that coucheth beneath,

13He said about Joseph: 'May his land be blessed by the LORD with the precious dew from heaven above and with the deep waters that lie below;

14And for the precious things of the fruits of the sun, And for the precious things of the growth of the moons,

14with the best crops produced by the sun and the rich yield of the months;

15And for the chief things of the ancient mountains, And for the precious things of the everlasting hills,

15with the finest gifts of the ancient mountains and the fruitfulness of the everlasting hills;

16And for the precious things of the earth and the fulness thereof, And the good will of him that dwelt in the bush. Let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph, And upon the crown of the head of him that was separate from his brethren.

16with the best gifts of the earth and everything in it, and the favor of him who lived in the burning bush. May these blessings rest on the head of Joseph, on the brow of the one who was prince among his brothers.

17The firstling of his herd, majesty is his; And his horns are the horns of the wild-ox: With them he shall push the peoples all of them, eventhe ends of the earth: And they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, And they are the thousands of Manasseh.

17He has the majesty of a firstborn bull; his strength is like the horns of a wild ox. With them he will gore the nations, even to the ends of the earth. These are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and these are the thousands of Manasseh.'

18And of Zebulun he said, Rejoice, Zebulun, in thy going out; And, Issachar, in thy tents.

18He said about Zebulun: 'Rejoice, Zebulun, in your travels, and you, Issachar, in your tents.

19They shall call the peoples unto the mountain; There shall they offer sacrifices of righteousness: For they shall suck the abundance of the seas, And the hidden treasures of the sand.

19They will invite nations to the mountain and there offer sacrifices of righteousness; they will feast on the abundance of the seas and the treasures hidden in the sand.'

20And of Gad he said, Blessed be he that enlargeth Gad: He dwelleth as a lioness, And teareth the arm, yea, the crown of the head.

20He said about Gad: 'Blessed is he who enlarges Gad’s territory! Gad lives there like a lion, tearing at the arm and the head.

21And he provided the first part for himself, For there was the lawgiver’s portion reserved; And he camewiththe heads of the people; He executed the righteousness of Jehovah, And his ordinances with Israel.

21He chose the best land for himself; the leader's portion was assigned to him there. When the leaders of the people gathered, he carried out the LORD’s righteous will and his laws for Israel.'

22And of Dan he said, Dan is a lion’s whelp, That leapeth forth from Bashan.

22He said about Dan: 'Dan is a lion’s cub, leaping out from Bashan.'

23And of Naphtali he said, O Naphtali, satisfied with favor, And full with the blessing of Jehovah, Possess thou the west and the south.

23He said about Naphtali: 'Naphtali is overflowing with favor and full of the LORD’s blessing; he will take possession of the lake and the south.'

24And of Asher he said, Blessed be Asher with children; Let him be acceptable unto his brethren, And let him dip his foot in oil.

24He said about Asher: 'Asher is most blessed of sons; let him be favored by his brothers, and let him dip his foot in olive oil.

25Thy bars shall be iron and brass; And as thy days, so shall thy strength be.

25The bolts of your gates will be iron and bronze, and your strength will last as long as you live.'

26There is none like unto God, O Jeshurun, Who rideth upon the heavens for thy help, And in his excellency on the skies.

26'There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides across the heavens to help you, riding on the clouds in his majesty.

27The eternal God isthy dwelling-place, And underneath are the everlasting arms. And he thrust out the enemy from before thee, And said, Destroy.

27The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath you are his everlasting arms. He drove out the enemy before you, saying, "Destroy them!"

28And Israel dwelleth in safety, The fountain of Jacob alone, In a land of grain and new wine; Yea, his heavens drop down dew.

28So Israel will live in safety; the fountain of Jacob will live undisturbed in a land of grain and new wine, where the heavens drop down dew.

29Happy art thou, O Israel: Who is like unto thee, a people saved by Jehovah, The shield of thy help, And the sword of thy excellency! And thine enemies shall submit themselves unto thee; And thou shalt tread upon their high places.

29How happy you are, Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the LORD? He is your protective shield and your triumphant sword. Your enemies will cower before you, and you will trample on their high places.'
