What Acts 28:13 means

From Syracuse they make a circuit to Rhegium. After a day, a favorable south wind arises, and on the second day they reach Puteoli. The details of winds and timing again demonstrate Luke’s careful observation and God’s subtle providence. After so much delay and danger, the journey now unfolds smoothly. Favorable winds serve God’s larger purposes as surely as storms once did. Reaching Puteoli places Paul within reach of Rome and connects him to an established community of believers. The swiftness of this leg contrasts with the earlier ordeal, hinting that the season of battering is past and the season of fruitful witness in Rome is about to begin.

Context

The travel log continues: from Syracuse (v. 12) to Rhegium and quickly to Puteoli (v. 13). This brings the company into Italy proper and sets up verse 14, where Paul finds brethren and stays with them for seven days before proceeding to Rome. Those relationships will provide much-needed encouragement (v. 15) as Paul approaches the city where he will be guarded yet free to minister (v. 16).

v.12And touching at Syracuse, we tarried there three days.

v.13This passage

v.14where we found brethren, and were entreated to tarry with them seven days: and so we came to Rome.
