1Now the Apostles and the brothers who were in Judaea had news that the word of God had been given to the Gentiles.

1And the apostles and the brethren who were in Judaea heard that the nations also had received the word ofGod;

1Now the apostles and the brethren that were in Judæa heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God.

2And when Peter came to Jerusalem, those who kept the rule of circumcision had an argument with him,

2and when Peter went up to Jerusalem, they of the circumcision contended with him,

2And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,

3Saying, You went to men without circumcision, and took food with them.

3saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised and hast eaten with them.

3saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.

4But Peter gave them an account of it all in order, saying to them,

4But Peter began and set forth [the matter] to them in order, saying,

4But Peter began, and expounded the matter unto them in order, saying,

5I was in the town of Joppa, at prayer: and falling into a deep sleep, I saw in a vision a vessel like a great cloth let down from heaven, and it came down to me:

5I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in an ecstasy I saw a vision, a certain vessel descending like a great sheet, let down by four corners out of heaven, and it came even to me:

5I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, a certain vessel descending, as it were a great sheet let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even unto me:

6And looking on it with attention I saw in it all sorts of beasts and birds.

6on which having fixed mine eyes, I considered, and saw the quadrupeds of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the creeping things, and the fowls of the heaven.

6upon which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw the fourfooted beasts of the earth and wild beasts and creeping things and birds of the heaven.

7And a voice came to my ears saying, Come, Peter; take them for food.

7And I heard also a voice saying to me, Rise up, Peter, slay and eat.

7And I heard also a voice saying unto me, Rise, Peter; kill and eat.

8But I said, No, Lord; for nothing common or unclean has ever come into my mouth.

8And I said, In no wise, Lord, for common or unclean has never entered into my mouth.

8But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath ever entered into my mouth.

9But the voice, coming a second time from heaven, said, What God has made clean, do not you make common.

9And a voice answered the second time out of heaven, WhatGod has cleansed, do not thou make common.

9But a voice answered the second time out of heaven, What God hath cleansed, make not thou common.

10And this was done three times, and they were all taken up again into heaven.

10And this took place thrice, and again all was drawn up into heaven;

10And this was done thrice: and all were drawn up again into heaven.

11And at that minute, three men, sent from Caesarea, came to the house where we were.

11and lo, immediately three men were at the house in which I was, sent to me from Caesarea.

11And behold, forthwith three men stood before the house in which we were, having been sent from Cæsarea unto me.

12And the Spirit gave me orders to go with them, doubting nothing. And these six brothers came with me; and we went into that man's house:

12And the Spirit said to me to go with them, nothing doubting. And there went with me these six brethren also, and we entered into the house of the man,

12And the Spirit bade me go with them, making no distinction. And these six brethren also accompanied me; and we entered into the man’s house:

13And he gave us an account of how he had seen the angel in his house, saying, Send to Joppa, and get Simon, named Peter, to come to you;

13and he related to us how he had seen the angel in his house, standing and saying [to him], Send [men] to Joppa and fetch Simon, who is surnamed Peter,

13and he told us how he had seen the angel standing in his house, and saying, Send to Joppa, and fetch Simon, whose surname is Peter;

14Who will say words to you through which you and all your family may get salvation.

14who shall speak words to thee whereby thou shalt be saved, thou and all thy house.

14who shall speak unto thee words, whereby thou shalt be saved, thou and all thy house.

15And, while I was talking to them, the Holy Spirit came on them, as on us at first.

15And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them even as upon us also at the beginning.

15And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, even as on us at the beginning.

16And the words of the Lord came into my mind, how he said, The baptism of John was with water, but you will have baptism with the Holy Spirit.

16And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, John baptised with water, but ye shall be baptised with [the] Holy Spirit.

16And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit.

17If then God gave them, when they had faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the same as he gave to us, who was I to go against God?

17If thenGod has given them the same gift as also to us when we had believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who indeed was I to be able to forbidGod?

17If then God gave unto them the like gift as he did also unto us, when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could withstand God?

18And hearing these things they said nothing more, but gave glory to God, saying, Then to the Gentiles as to us has God given a change of heart, so that they may have life.

18And when they heard these things they held their peace, and glorifiedGod, saying, Then indeedGod has to the nations also granted repentance to life.

18And when they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then to the Gentiles also hath God granted repentance unto life.

19Then those who had gone away at the time of the trouble about Stephen, went as far as Phoenicia and Cyprus, preaching to the Jews only.

19They then who had been scattered abroad through the tribulation that took place on the occasion of Stephen, passed through [the country] to Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to no one but to Jews alone.

19They therefore that were scattered abroad upon the tribulation that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phoenicia, and Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to none save only to Jews.

20But some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, when they came to Antioch, gave the good news about the Lord Jesus to the Greeks.

20But there were certain of them, Cyprians and Cyrenians, who entering into Antioch spoke to the Greeks also, announcing the glad tidings of the Lord Jesus.

20But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Greeks also, preaching the Lord Jesus.

21And the power of the Lord was with them, and a great number had faith and were turned to the Lord.

21And [the] Lord's hand was with them, and a great number believed and turned to the Lord.

21And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number that believed turned unto the Lord.

22And news of them came to the ears of the church at Jerusalem: and they sent Barnabas as far as Antioch:

23Who, when he came and saw the grace of God, was glad; and he made clear to them the need of keeping near the Lord with all the strength of their hearts:

23who, having arrived and seeing the grace ofGod, rejoiced, and exhorted all with purpose of heart to abide with the Lord;

23who, when he was come, and had seen the grace of God, was glad; and he exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord:

24For he was a good man and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith: and a great number were joined to the Lord.

24for he was a good man and full of [the] Holy Spirit and of faith; and a large crowd [of people] were added to the Lord.

24for he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.

26And when he had come across him, he took him to Antioch. And they were with the church there for a year, teaching the people; and the disciples were first given the name of Christians in Antioch.

26And having found [him], he brought him to Antioch. And so it was with them that for a whole year they were gathered together in the assembly and taught a large crowd: and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.

26and when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that even for a whole year they were gathered together with the church, and taught much people; and that the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

28And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be a great famine over all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius.

29And the disciples, everyone as he was able, made a decision to send help to the brothers living in Judaea:

29And they determined, according as any one of the disciples was well off, each of them to send to the brethren who dwelt in Judaea, to minister [to them];

29And the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren that dwelt in Judæa:

30Which they did, sending it to the rulers of the church by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.

30which also they did, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.

30which also they did, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.
