1But know this, that in the last days grievous times shall come.

1But this know, that in [the] last days difficult times shall be there;

1And this know thou, that in the last days there shall come perilous times,

1But be certain of this, that in the last days times of trouble will come.

2For men shall be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, railers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

2for men shall be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, evil speakers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, profane,

2for men shall be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, evil-speakers, to parents disobedient, unthankful, unkind,

2For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, uplifted in pride, given to bitter words, going against the authority of their fathers, never giving praise, having no religion,

3without natural affection, implacable, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, no lovers of good,

3without natural affection, implacable, slanderers, of unsubdued passions, savage, having no love for what is good,

3without natural affection, implacable, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, not lovers of those who are good,

3Without natural love, bitter haters, saying evil of others, violent and uncontrolled, hating all good,

4traitors, headstrong, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God;

4traitors, headlong, of vain pretensions, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers ofGod;

4traitors, heady, lofty, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God,

4False to their friends, acting without thought, lifted up in mind, loving pleasure more than God;

5holding a form of godliness, but having denied the power thereof: from these also turn away.

5having a form of piety but denying the power of it: and from these turn away.

5having a form of piety, and its power having denied; and from these be turning away,

5Having a form of religion, but turning their backs on the power of it: go not with these.

6For of these are they that creep into houses, and take captive silly women laden with sins, led away by divers lusts,

6For of these are they who are getting into houses, and leading captive silly women, laden with sins, led by various lusts,

6for of these there are those coming into the houses and leading captive the silly women, laden with sins, led away with desires manifold,

6For these are they who go secretly into houses, making prisoners of foolish women, weighted down with sin, turned from the way by their evil desires,

7ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

7always learning, and never able to come to [the] knowledge of [the] truth.

7always learning, and never to a knowledge of truth able to come,

7Ever learning, and never coming to the knowledge of what is true.

8And even as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also withstand the truth; men corrupted in mind, reprobate concerning the faith.

8Now in the same manner in which Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, thus these also withstand the truth; men corrupted in mind, found worthless as regards the faith.

8and, even as Jannes and Jambres stood against Moses, so also these do stand against the truth, men corrupted in mind, disapproved concerning the faith;

8And as James and Jambres went against Moses, so do these go against what is true: men of evil minds, who, tested by faith, are seen to be false.

9But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be evident unto all men, as theirs also came to be.

9But they shall not advance farther; for their folly shall be completely manifest to all, as that of those also became.

9but they shall not advance any further, for their folly shall be manifest to all, as theirs also did become.

9But they will go no farther: for their foolish behaviour will be clear to all men, as theirs was in the end.

10But thou didst follow my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, patience,

10But thou hast been thoroughly acquainted with my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, endurance,

10And thou--thou hast followed after my teaching, manner of life, purpose, faith, long-suffering, love, endurance,

10But you took as your example my teaching, behaviour, purpose, and faith; my long waiting, my love, my quiet undergoing of trouble;

11persecutions, sufferings; what things befell me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: and out of them all the Lord delivered me.

11persecutions, sufferings: what [sufferings] happened to me in Antioch, in Iconium, in Lystra; what persecutions I endured; and the Lord delivered me out of all.

11the persecutions, the afflictions, that befell me in Antioch, in Iconium, in Lystra; what persecutions I endured, and out of all the Lord did deliver me,

11My punishments and pain; the things which came to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; the cruel attacks made on me: and the Lord made me free from them all.

12Yea, and all that would live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

12And all indeed who desire to live piously in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

12and all also who will to live piously in Christ Jesus shall be persecuted,

12Yes, and all whose purpose is to be living in the knowledge of God in Christ Jesus, will be cruelly attacked.

13But evil men and impostors shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.

13But wicked men and juggling impostors shall advance in evil, leading and being led astray.

13and evil men and impostors shall advance to the worse, leading astray and being led astray.

13Evil and false men will become worse and worse, using deceit and themselves overcome by deceit.

14But abide thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

14But thou, abide in those things which thou hast learned, and [of which] thou hast been fully persuaded, knowing of whom thou hast learned [them];

14And thou--be remaining in the things which thou didst learn and wast entrusted with, having known from whom thou didst learn,

14But see that you keep to the teaching you have been given and the things of which you are certain, conscious of who has been your teacher;

15and that from a babe thou hast known the sacred writings which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

15and that from a child thou hast known the sacred letters, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation, through faith which [is] in Christ Jesus.

15and because from a babe the Holy Writings thou hast known, which are able to make thee wise--to salvation, through faith that <FI>is<Fi> in Christ Jesus;

15And that from the time when you were a child, you have had knowledge of the holy Writings, which are able to make you wise to salvation, through faith in Christ Jesus.

16Every scripture inspired of God is also profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness:

16Every scripture [is] divinely inspired, and profitable for teaching, for conviction, for correction, for instruction in righteousness;

16every Writing <FI>is<Fi> God-breathed, and profitable for teaching, for conviction, for setting aright, for instruction that <FI>is<Fi> in righteousness,

16Every holy Writing which comes from God is of profit for teaching, for training, for guiding, for education in righteousness:

17that the man of God may be complete, furnished completely unto every good work.

17that the man ofGod may be complete, fully fitted to every good work.

17that the man of God may be fitted--for every good work having been completed.

17So that the man of God may be complete, trained and made ready for every good work.
