1Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run and be glorified, even as alsoit iswith you;
1Finally, brothers and sisters, pray for us that the Lord’s message may spread quickly and be honored, just as it was among you.
2and that we may be delivered from unreasonable and evil men; for all have not faith.
2Pray also that we may be rescued from wicked and evil people, for not everyone has faith.
3But the Lord is faithful, who shall establish you, and guard you from the evil one.
3But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.
4And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command.
4We have confidence in the Lord concerning you, that you are doing and will continue to do the things we command.
5And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patience of Christ.
5May the Lord lead your hearts into the love of God and into the patient endurance of Christ.
6Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which they received of us.
6Now we command you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to stay away from every believer who lives in idleness and does not follow the teaching you received from us.
7For yourselves know how ye ought to imitate us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;
7For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you,
8neither did we eat bread for nought at any man’s hand, but in labor and travail, working night and day, that we might not burden any of you:
8nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. Instead, we worked hard and struggled night and day so that we would not be a financial burden to any of you.
9not because we have not the right, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you, that ye should imitate us.
9We did this not because we do not have the right to such support, but to offer ourselves as a model for you to follow.
10For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, If any will not work, neither let him eat.
10For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: 'If anyone is unwilling to work, he shall not eat.'
11For we hear of some that walk among you disorderly, that work not at all, but are busybodies.
11We hear that some among you are living idle lives. They are not busy working; they are busybodies.
12Now them that are such we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.
12In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command and encourage such people to settle down and work to earn their own living.
13But ye, brethren, be not weary in well-doing.
13As for the rest of you, brothers and sisters, never get tired of doing what is right.
14And if any man obeyeth not our word by this epistle, note that man, that ye have no company with him, to the end that he may be ashamed.
14If anyone does not obey what we say in this letter, take special note of that person. Have nothing to do with them, so that they may feel ashamed.
15And yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.
15Do not treat them as an enemy, but warn them as you would a brother or sister.
16Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in all ways. The Lord be with you all.
16Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with you all.
