1And we ask you, brethren, in regard to the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, and of our gathering together unto him,

1And we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and of our gathering together unto him:

2that ye be not quickly shaken in mind, nor be troubled, neither through spirit, neither through word, neither through letters as through us, as that the day of Christ hath arrived;

2That you be not easily moved from your sense nor be terrified, neither by spirit nor by word nor by epistle. as sent from us, as if the day of the Lord were at hand.

3let not any one deceive you in any manner, because--if the falling away may not come first, and the man of sin be revealed--the son of the destruction,

3Let no man deceive you by any means: for unless there come a revolt first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition

4who is opposing and is raising himself up above all called God or worshipped, so that he in the sanctuary of God as God hath sat down, shewing himself off that he is God--<FI> the day doth not come<Fi> .

4Who opposeth and is lifted up above all that is called God or that is worshipped, so that he sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself as if he were God.

5Do ye not remember that, being yet with you, these things I said to you?

5Remember you not that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

6and now, what is keeping down ye have known, for his being revealed in his own time,

6And now you know what withholdeth, that he may be revealed in his time.

7for the secret of the lawlessness doth already work, only he who is keeping down now <FI>will hinder<Fi> --till he may be out of the way,

7For the mystery of iniquity already worketh: only that he who now holdeth do hold, until he be taken out of the way.

8and then shall be revealed the Lawless One, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the manifestation of his presence,

8And then that wicked one shall be revealed: whom the Lord Jesus shall kill with the spirit of his mouth and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: him

9<FI> him,<Fi> whose presence is according to the working of the Adversary, in all power, and signs, and lying wonders,

9Whose coming is according to the working of Satan, in all power and signs and lying wonders:

10and in all deceitfulness of the unrighteousness in those perishing, because the love of the truth they did not receive for their being saved,

10And in all seduction of iniquity to them that perish: because they receive not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. Therefore God shall send them the operation of error, to believe lying:

11and because of this shall God send to them a working of delusion, for their believing the lie,

11That all may be judged who have not believed the truth but have consented to iniquity.

12that they may be judged--all who did not believe the truth, but were well pleased in the unrighteousness.

12But we ought to give thanks to God always for you, brethren, beloved of God, for that God hath chosen you firstfruits unto salvation, in sanctification of the spirit and faith of the truth:

13And we--we ought to give thanks to God always for you, brethren, beloved by the Lord, that God did choose you from the beginning to salvation, in sanctification of the Spirit, and belief of the truth,

13Whereunto also he hath called you by our gospel, unto the purchasing of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

14to which He did call you through our good news, to the acquiring of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ;

14Therefore, brethren, stand fast: and hold the traditions, which you have learned, whether by word or by our epistle.

15so, then, brethren, stand ye fast, and hold the deliverances that ye were taught, whether through word, whether through our letter;

15Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God and our Father, who hath loved us and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope in grace,

16and may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and our God and Father, who did love us, and did give comfort age-during, and good hope in grace,

16Exhort your hearts and confirm you in every good work and word.

17comfort your hearts, and establish you in every good word and work.
