1Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained a like precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and the Saviour Jesus Christ:
1Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
1Simon Peter, a servant and Apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who with us have a part in the same holy faith in the righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ:
1Simon Peter, bondman and apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have received like precious faith with us through [the] righteousness of ourGod and Saviour Jesus Christ:
2Grace to you and peace be multiplied in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord;
2Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
2May grace and peace ever be increasing in you, in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord;
2Grace and peace be multiplied to you in [the] knowledge ofGod and of Jesus our Lord.
3seeing that his divine power hath granted unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that called us by his own glory and virtue;
3According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
3Because by his power he has given us everything necessary for life and righteousness, through the knowledge of him who has been our guide by his glory and virtue;
3As his divine power has given to us all things which relate to life andgodliness, through the knowledge of him that has called us by glory and virtue,
4whereby he hath granted unto us his precious and exceeding great promises; that through these ye may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world by lust.
4Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
4And through this he has given us the hope of great rewards highly to be valued; so that by them we might have our part in God's being, and be made free from the destruction which is in the world through the desires of the flesh.
4through which he has given to us the greatest and precious promises, that through these ye may become partakers of [the] divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
5Yea, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply virtue; and in your virtue knowledge;
5And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
5So, for this very cause, take every care; joining virtue to faith, and knowledge to virtue,
5But for this very reason also, using therewith all diligence, in your faith have also virtue, in virtue knowledge,
6and in your knowledge self-control; and in your self-control patience; and in your patience godliness;
6And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
6And self-control to knowledge, and a quiet mind to self-control, and fear of God to a quiet mind,
6in knowledge temperance, in temperance endurance, in endurancegodliness,
7and in your godliness brotherly kindness; and in your brotherly kindness love.
7And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
7And love of the brothers to fear of God, and to love of the brothers, love itself.
7ingodliness brotherly love, in brotherly love love:
8For if these things are yours and abound, they make you to be not idle nor unfruitful unto the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
8For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
8For if you have these things in good measure, they will make you fertile and full of fruit in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
8for these things existing and abounding in you make [you] to be neither idle nor unfruitful as regards the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ;
9For he that lacketh these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins.
9But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
9For the man who has not these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having no memory of how he was made clean from his old sins.
9for he with whom these things are not present is blind, short-sighted, and has forgotten the purging of his former sins.
10Wherefore, brethren, give the more diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never stumble:
10Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
10For this reason, my brothers, take all the more care to make your selection and approval certain; for if you do these things you will never have a fall:
10Wherefore the rather, brethren, use diligence to make your calling and election sure, for doing these things ye will never fall;
11for thus shall be richly supplied unto you the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
11For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
11For so the way will be open to you into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
11for thus shall the entrance into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ be richly furnished unto you.
12Wherefore I shall be ready always to put you in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and are established in the truth which is with you.
12Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.
12For this reason I will be ready at all times to keep your memory of these things awake, though you have the knowledge of them now and are well based in your present faith.
12Wherefore I will be careful to put you always in mind of these things, although knowing [them] and established in the present truth.
13And I think it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
13Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
13And it seems right to me, as long as I am in this tent of flesh, to keep your minds awake by working on your memory;
13But I account it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting [you] in remembrance,
14knowing that the putting off of my tabernacle cometh swiftly, even as our Lord Jesus Christ signified unto me.
14Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
14For I am conscious that in a short time I will have to put off this tent of flesh, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.
14knowing that the putting off of my tabernacle is speedily [to take place], as also our Lord Jesus Christ has manifested to me;
15Yea, I will give diligence that at every time ye may be able after my decease to call these things to remembrance.
15Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
15And I will take every care so that you may have a clear memory of these things after my death.
15but I will use diligence, that after my departure ye should have also, at any time, [in your power] to call to mind these things.
16For we did not follow cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
16For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
16For when we gave you news of the power and the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, our teaching was not based on stories put together by art, but we were eye-witnesses of his glory.
16For we have not made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, following cleverly imagined fables, but having been eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17For he received from God the Father honor and glory, when there was borne such a voice to him by the Majestic Glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased:
17For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
17For God the Father gave him honour and glory, when such a voice came to him out of the great glory, saying, This is my dearly loved Son, with whom I am well pleased.
17For he received fromGod [the] Father honour and glory, such a voice being uttered to him by the excellent glory: This is my beloved Son, in whom I have found my delight;
18and this voice we ourselves heard borne out of heaven, when we were with him in the holy mount.
18And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
18And this voice came from heaven even to our ears, when we were with him on the holy mountain.
18and this voice we heard uttered from heaven, being with him on the holy mountain.
19And we have the word of prophecy made more sure; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day-star arise in your hearts:
19We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
19And so the words of the prophets are made more certain; and it is well for you to give attention to them as to a light shining in a dark place, till the dawn comes and the morning star is seen in your hearts;
19And we have the prophetic word [made] surer, to which ye do well taking heed (as to a lamp shining in an obscure place) until [the] day dawn and [the] morning star arise in your hearts;
20knowing this first, that no prophecy of scripture is of private interpretation.
20Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
20Being conscious in the first place that no man by himself may give a special sense to the words of the prophets.
20knowing this first, that [the scope of] no prophecy of scripture is had from its own particular interpretation,
21For no prophecy ever came by the will of man: but men spake from God, being moved by the Holy Spirit.
21For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
21For these words did not ever come through the impulse of men: but the prophets had them from God, being moved by the Holy Spirit.
21for prophecy was not ever uttered by [the] will of man, but holy men ofGod spake under the power of [the] Holy Spirit.
