What 2 Corinthians 11:10 means

Paul swears by the truth of Christ in him that no one will stop him from this “boasting” in Achaia—namely, boasting that he preached without charge. It is a firm, conscience-bound decision shaped by Christ’s truth at work in him. He wants it known that he is not beholden to human patrons and that the gospel is not merchandise. His determination underscores his freedom in Christ and his love for the churches. This is not pride in achievements, but a settled resolve to remove obstacles and silence critics by continuing the very practice they have tried to twist against him.

Context

After recalling Macedonian support (v.9), Paul turns his memory into a vow (v.10). He will keep refusing Corinthian patronage. Anticipating a misunderstanding, he denies that this flows from lack of love (v.11). He then reveals its tactical purpose (v.12): to deny his opponents any pretext for boasting. That explanation opens directly into a condemnation of those opponents as false apostles who disguise themselves (v.13), like Satan himself who appears as an angel of light (v.14), along with the sobering reminder of their end (v.15).

v.9and when I was present with you and was in want, I was not a burden on any man; for the brethren, when they came from Macedonia, supplied the measure of my want; and in everything I kept myself from being burdensome unto you, and so will I keep myself.

v.10This passage

v.11Wherefore? because I love you not? God knoweth.
