1Paul, and Silvanus, and Timothy, unto the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace.
1From Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, to the church of the Thessalonians who belong to God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: May grace and peace be with you.
2We give thanks to God always for you all, making mentionof youin our prayers;
2We always thank God for all of you and constantly mention you in our prayers.
3remembering without ceasing your work of faith and labor of love and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father;
3Before our God and Father, we continually remember how your faith is shown by your work, your love by your hard labor, and your hope in our Lord Jesus Christ by your endurance.
4knowing, brethren beloved of God, your election,
4Brothers and sisters, we know that God loves you and that he has chosen you.
5how that our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and in much assurance; even as ye know what manner of men we showed ourselves toward you for your sake.
5The good news we brought didn’t come to you just as talk, but with power, with the Holy Spirit, and with deep conviction; you saw for yourselves what kind of people we were when we were with you for your benefit.
6And ye became imitators of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit;
6You began to follow the example of us and of the Lord; even though you suffered a lot, you welcomed the message with the joy that comes from the Holy Spirit.
7so that ye became an ensample to all that believe in Macedonia and in Achaia.
7As a result, you became a model for all the believers in the regions of Macedonia and Achaia.
8For from you hath sounded forth the word of the Lord, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place your faith to God-ward is gone forth; so that we need not to speak anything.
8The Lord’s message has rung out from you; it has spread not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God is well known everywhere, so we don't even need to say anything about it.
9For they themselves report concerning us what manner of entering in we had unto you; and how ye turned unto God from idols, to serve a living and true God,
9People everywhere are telling the story of how you welcomed us and how you turned away from idols to God, so that you could serve the living and true God.
