What 1 Peter 1:19 means
The ransom was paid “with precious blood, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot, even the blood of Christ.” The imagery evokes a perfect, sacrificial offering—pure and acceptable. Christ’s flawless life and sacrificial death are of inestimable worth, securing deliverance from sin’s bondage. This is the ground of Christian assurance and the measure of God’s love. If such a price purchased us, our lives are not our own; we belong to the Redeemer. The emphasis on Christ’s blood centers salvation in his atoning death, the sufficient and final means by which God cleanses and claims his people.

Context
Following the denial that silver or gold could redeem (v. 18), verse 19 declares the true cost—Christ’s spotless blood. Verses 20–21 will place this sacrifice within God’s eternal purpose and resurrection glory, so that believers’ faith and hope rest firmly in God. The flow drives from ransom to revelation to renewed trust.
