What 1 John 2:25 means
The promise attached to abiding in the apostolic word and in the Son and the Father is “the life eternal.” Eternal life is not merely endless duration but the blessed life of fellowship with God through Jesus Christ. It is both a present possession and a future hope. God Himself has pledged this life; the promise rests on His faithfulness. In the face of deceivers and a passing world, this promise anchors believers and magnifies the worth of remaining in the truth. To stay with the gospel is to stay with the God who gives life without end.

Context
Having urged his readers to let the original message abide (verse 24), John now highlights what God has promised (verse 25): eternal life. This promise reinforces the value of perseverance. He will then clarify his pastoral aim in verse 26—he writes because of those who would mislead them—and in verse 27 he will remind them that the anointing they received teaches them and keeps them abiding in Christ.
