1Dare any one of you, having a matter against another, prosecute his suit before the unjust, and not before the saints?
1How is it, that if any one of you has a cause at law against another, he takes it before a Gentile judge and not before the saints?
1Dare any one of you, having a matter with the other, go to be judged before the unrighteous, and not before the saints?
2Do ye not then know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world is judged by you, are ye unworthy of [the] smallest judgments?
2Is it not certain that the saints will be the judges of the world? if then the world will be judged by you, are you unable to give a decision about the smallest things?
2have ye not known that the saints shall judge the world? and if by you the world is judged, are ye unworthy of the smaller judgments?
3Do ye not know that we shall judge angels? and not then matters of this life?
3Is it not certain that we are to be the judges of angels? how much more then of the things of this life?
3have ye not known that we shall judge messengers? why not then the things of life?
4If then ye have judgments as to things of this life, set those [to judge] who are little esteemed in the assembly.
4If then there are questions to be judged in connection with the things of this life, why do you put them in the hands of those who have no position in the church?
4of the things of life, indeed, then, if ye may have judgment, those despised in the assembly--these cause ye to sit;
5I speak to you [to put you] to shame. Thus there is not a wise person among you, not even one, who shall be able to decide between his brethren!
5I say this to put you to shame. Is there not among you one wise man who may be able to give a decision between his brothers?
5unto your shame I speak: so there is not among you one wise man, not even one, who shall be able to discern in the midst of his brethren!
6But brother prosecutes his suit with brother, and that before unbelievers.
6But a brother who has a cause at law against another takes it before Gentile judges.
6but brother with brother doth go to be judged, and this before unbelievers!
7Already indeed then it is altogether a fault in you that ye have suits between yourselves. Why do ye not rather suffer wrong? why are ye not rather defrauded?
7More than this, it is not to your credit to have causes at law with one another at all. Why not put up with wrong? why not undergo loss?
7Already, indeed, then, there is altogether a fault among you, that ye have judgments with one another; wherefore do ye not rather suffer injustice? wherefore be ye not rather defrauded?
8But ye do wrong, and defraud, and this [your] brethren.
8So far from doing this, you yourselves do wrong and take your brothers' property.
8but ye--ye do injustice, and ye defraud, and these--brethren!
9Do ye not know that unrighteous [persons] shall not inherit [the] kingdom ofGod? Do not err: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor those who make women of themselves, nor who abuse themselves with men,
9Have you not knowledge that evil-doers will have no part in the kingdom of God? Have no false ideas about this: no one who goes after the desires of the flesh, or gives worship to images, or is untrue when married, or is less than a man, or makes a wrong use of men,
9have ye not known that the unrighteous the reign of God shall not inherit? be not led astray; neither whoremongers, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor sodomites,
10nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor abusive persons, nor [the] rapacious, shall inherit [the] kingdom ofGod.
10Or is a thief, or the worse for drink, or makes use of strong language, or takes by force what is not his, will have any part in the kingdom of God.
10nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, the reign of God shall inherit.
11And these things were some of you; but ye have been washed, but ye have been sanctified, but ye have been justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of ourGod.
11And such were some of you; but you have been washed, you have been made holy, you have been given righteousness in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.
11And certain of you were these! but ye were washed, but ye were sanctified, but ye were declared righteous, in the name of the Lord Jesus, and in the Spirit of our God.
12All things are lawful to me, but all things do not profit; all things are lawful to me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
12I am free to do all things; but not all things are wise. I am free to do all things; but I will not let myself come under the power of any.
12All things are lawful to me, but all things are not profitable; all things are lawful to me, but I--I will not be under authority by any;
13Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats; butGod will bring to nothing both it and them: but the body [is] not for fornication, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
13Food is for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will put an end to them together. But the body is not for the desires of the flesh, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body:
13the meats <FI>are<Fi> for the belly, and the belly for the meats. And God both this and these shall make useless; and the body <FI>is<Fi> not for whoredom, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body;
14AndGod has both raised up the Lord, and will raise us up from among [the dead] by his power.
14And God who made the Lord Jesus come back from the dead will do the same for us by his power.
14and God both the Lord did raise, and us will raise up through His power.
15Do ye not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then, taking the members of the Christ, make [them] members of a harlot? Far be the thought.
15Do you not see that your bodies are part of the body of Christ? how then may I take what is a part of the body of Christ and make it a part of the body of a loose woman? such a thing may not be.
15Have ye not known that your bodies are members of Christ? having taken, then, the members of the Christ, shall I make <FI>them<Fi> members of an harlot? let it be not!
16Do ye not know that he [that is] joined to the harlot is one body? for the two, he says, shall be one flesh.
16Or do you not see that he who is joined to a loose woman is one body with her? for God has said, The two of them will become one flesh.
16have ye not known that he who is joined to the harlot is one body? `for they shall be--saith He--the two for one flesh.'
17But he that [is] joined to the Lord is one Spirit.
17But he who is united to the Lord is one spirit.
17And he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit;
18Flee fornication. Every sin which a man may practise is without the body, but he that commits fornication sins against his own body.
18Keep away from the desires of the flesh. Every sin which a man does is outside of the body; but he who goes after the desires of the flesh does evil to his body.
18flee the whoredom; every sin--whatever a man may commit--is without the body, and he who is committing whoredom, against his own body doth sin.
19Do ye not know that your body is [the] temple of the Holy Spirit which [is] in you, which ye have ofGod; and ye are not your own?
19Or are you not conscious that your body is a house for the Holy Spirit which is in you, and which has been given to you by God? and you are not the owners of yourselves;
19Have ye not known that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit in you, which ye have from God? and ye are not your own,
