1And David the king said to all the people, Solomon my son, the only one who has been marked out by God, is still young and untested, and the work is great, for this great house is not for man, but for the Lord God.
1And king David said to all the assembly: Solomon my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is as yet young and tender: and the work is great, for a house is prepared not for man, but for God.
1And David the king saith to all the assembly, `Solomon my son--the one on whom God hath fixed--<FI> is<Fi> young and tender, and the work <FI>is<Fi> great, for not for man is the palace, but for Jehovah God;
2Now as far as I am able, I have made ready what is needed for the house of my God; the gold for the things of gold, and the silver for the silver things, and the brass for the brass things, iron for the things of iron, and wood for the things of wood; beryls and jewels to be framed, and stones of different colours for ornament; all sorts of stones of great price, and polished building-stone, as much as is needed and more.
2And I with all my ability have prepared the expenses for the house of my God. Gold for vessels of gold, and silver for vessels of silver, brass for things of brass, iron for things of iron, wood for things of wood: and onyx stones, and stones like alabaster, and of divers colours, and all manner of precious stones, and marble of Paros in great abundance.
2and with all my power I have prepared for the house of my God, the gold for <FI>things of<Fi> gold, and the silver for <FI>those of<Fi> silver, and the brass for <FI>those of<Fi> brass, the iron for <FI>those of<Fi> iron, and the wood for <FI>those of<Fi> wood, shoham stones, and settings, and stones of painting and of diverse colours, and all <FI>kinds of<Fi> precious stone, and stones of white marble, in abundance.
3And because this house of God is dear to me, I give my private store of gold and silver to the house of my God, in addition to all I have got ready for the holy house;
3Now over and above the things which I have offered into the house of my God I give of my own proper goods, gold and silver for the temple of my God, beside what things I have prepared for the holy house.
3`And again, because of my delighting in the house of my God, the substance I have--a peculiar treasure of gold and silver--I have given for the house of my God, even over and above all I have prepared for the house of the sanctuary:
4Even three thousand talents of gold of Ophir and seven thousand talents of the best silver, for plating the walls of the house:
4Three thousand talents of gold of the gold of Ophir: and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the temple.
4three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the houses,
5Gold for the gold things, and silver for the silver things, and for every sort of work to be done by the expert workmen. Who then will come forward, offering himself this day for the Lord's work?
5And gold for wheresoever there is need of gold: and silver for wheresoever there is need of silver, for the works to be made by the hands of the artificers: now if any man is willing to offer, let him fill his hand to day, and offer what he pleaseth to the Lord.
5even gold for <FI>things of<Fi> gold, and silver for <FI>those of<Fi> silver, and for all the work by the hand of artificers; and who <FI>is<Fi> he that is offering willingly to consecrate his hand to-day to Jehovah?'
6Then the heads of families and the chiefs of the tribes of Israel, and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the controllers of the king's business, freely gave themselves;
6Then the heads of the families, and the princes of the tribes of Israel and the captains of thousands, and of hundreds, and the overseers of the king's possessions promised,
6And the heads of the fathers, and the heads of the tribes of Israel, and the heads of the thousands, and of the hundreds, even to the heads of the work of the king, offer willingly.
7And they gave for the use of the house of the Lord, five thousand talents and ten thousand darics of gold, and ten thousand talents of silver, and eighteen thousand talents of brass, and a hundred thousand talents of iron.
7And they gave for the works of the house of the Lord, of gold, five thousand talents, and ten thousand solids: of silver ten thousand talents: and of brass eighteen thousand talents: and of iron a hundred thousand talents.
7And they give for the service of the house of God, of gold--talents five thousand, and drams a myriad; and of silver--talents ten thousand, and of brass--a myriad and eight thousand talents; and of iron--a hundred thousand talents;
8And those who had stones of great price gave them to the store of the house of the Lord, under the care of Jehiel the Gershonite.
8And all they that had stones, gave them to the treasures of the house of the Lord, by the hand of Jahiel the Gersonite.
8and he with whom stones are found hath given to the treasury of the house of Jehovah, by the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.
9Then the people were glad because their offerings were freely given, for with a true heart they freely gave what they had to the Lord; and David the king was full of joy.
9And the people rejoiced, when they promised their offerings willingly: because they offered them to the Lord with all their heart: and David the king rejoiced also with a great joy.
9And the people rejoice because of their offering willingly, for with a perfect heart they have offered willingly to Jehovah; and also David the king hath rejoiced--great joy.
10So David gave praise to the Lord before all the people; and David said, Praise be to you, O Lord the God of Israel, our father for ever and ever.
10And he blessed the Lord before all the multitude, and he said: Blessed art thou, O Lord the God of Israel, our father from eternity to eternity.
10And David blesseth Jehovah before the eyes of all the assembly, and David saith, `Blessed <FI>art<Fi> Thou, Jehovah, God of Israel our father, from age even unto age.
11Yours, O Lord, is the strength and the power and the glory, and the authority and the honour: for everything in heaven and on earth is yours; yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are lifted up as head over all.
11Thine, O Lord, is magnificence, and power, and glory, and victory: and to thee is praise: for all that is in heaven, and in earth, is thine: thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art above all princes.
11To Thee, O Jehovah, <FI>is<Fi> the greatness, and the might, and the beauty, and the victory, and the honour, because of all in the heavens and in the earth; to Thee, O Jehovah, <FI>is<Fi> the kingdom, and he who is lifting up himself over all for head;
12Wealth and honour come from you, and you are ruler over all, and in your hand is power and strength; it is in your power to make great, and to give strength to all.
12Thine are riches, and thine is glory, thou hast dominion over all, in thy hand is power and might: in thy hand greatness, and the empire of all things.
12and the riches, and the honour <FI>are<Fi> from before Thee, and Thou art ruling over all, and in Thy hand <FI>is<Fi> power and might, and in Thy hand, to make great, and to give strength to all.
13So now, our God, we give you praise, honouring the glory of your name.
13Now therefore our God we give thanks to thee, and we praise thy glorious name.
13`And now, our God, we are giving thanks to Thee, and giving praise to Thy beauteous name;
14But who am I and what is my people, that we have power to give so freely in this way? for all things come from you, and what we have given you is yours.
14Who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to promise thee all these things? all things are thine: and we have given thee what we received of thy hand.
14yea, because, who <FI>am<Fi> I, and who <FI>are<Fi> my people, that we retain power to offer thus willingly? but of Thee <FI>is<Fi> the whole, and out of Thy hand we have given to Thee;
15For we, as all our fathers were, are like men from a strange country before you, who have got a place for a time in the land; our days on the earth are like a shade, and there is no hope of going on.
15For we are sojourners before thee, and strangers, as were all our fathers. I Our days upon earth are as a shadow, and there is no stay.
15for sojourners we <FI>are<Fi> before Thee, and settlers, like all our fathers; as a shadow <FI>are<Fi> our days on the land, and there is none abiding.
16O Lord our God, all this store, which we have made ready for the building of a house for your holy name, comes from your hand and is yours.
16O Lord our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee a house for thy holy name, is from thy hand, and all things are thine.
16`O Jehovah our God, all this store that we have prepared to build to Thee a house, for Thy holy name, <FI>is<Fi> out of Thy hand, and of Thee <FI>is<Fi> the whole.
17And I am conscious, my God, that you are the searcher of hearts, taking pleasure in righteousness. As for me, with an upright heart I have freely given all these things; and I have seen with joy your people who are here to make their offerings freely to you.
17I know my God that thou provest hearts, and lovest simplicity, wherefore I also in the simplicity of my heart, have joyfully offered all these things: and I have seen with great joy thy people, which are here present, offer thee their offerings.
17`And I have known, my God, that Thou art trying the heart, and uprightness dost desire; I, in the uprightness of my heart, have willingly offered all these: and now, Thy people who are found here I have seen with joy to offer willingly to Thee.
18O Lord, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this for ever in the deepest thoughts of your people, and let their hearts be fixed and true to you;
18O Lord God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Israel our fathers, keep for ever this will of their heart, and let this mind remain always for the worship of thee.
18`O Jehovah, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep this to the age for the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of Thy people, and prepare their heart unto Thee;
19And give to Solomon my son a true heart, to keep your orders, your rules, and your laws, and to do all these things, and to put up this great house for which I have made ready.
19And give to Solomon my son a perfect heart, that he may keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy ceremonies, and do all things: and build the house, for which I have provided the charges.
19and to Solomon my son give a perfect heart, to keep Thy commands, Thy testimonies, and Thy statutes, and to do the whole, even to build the palace <FI>for<Fi> which I have prepared.'
20And David said to all the people, Now give praise to the Lord your God. And all the people gave praise to the Lord, the God of their fathers, with bent heads worshipping the Lord and the king.
20And David commanded all the assembly: Bless ye the Lord our God. And all the assembly blessed the Lord the God of their fathers: and they bowed themselves and worshipped God, and then the king.
20And David saith to all the assembly, `Bless, I pray you, Jehovah your God;' and all the assembly bless Jehovah, God of their fathers, and bow and do obeisance to Jehovah, and to the king.
21And they made offerings to the Lord, and gave burned offerings to the Lord, on the day after, a thousand oxen, a thousand sheep, and a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings, and a great wealth of offerings for all Israel.
21And they sacrificed victims to the Lord: and they offered holocausts the next day, a thousand bullocks, a thousand rams, a thousand lambs, with their libations, and with every thing prescribed most abundantly for all Israel.
21And they sacrifice to Jehovah sacrifices, and cause to ascend burnt-offerings to Jehovah on the morrow of that day, bullocks a thousand, rams a thousand, lambs a thousand, and their oblations, even sacrifices in abundance, for all Israel.
22And with great joy they made a feast before the Lord that day. And they made Solomon, the son of David, king a second time, putting the holy oil on him to make him holy to the Lord as ruler, and on Zadok as priest.
22And they ate, and drank before the Lord that day with great joy. And they anointed the second time Solomon the son of David. And they anointed him to the Lord to be prince, and Sadoc to be high priest.
22And they eat and drink before Jehovah on that day with great joy, and cause Solomon son of David to reign a second time, and anoint <FI>him<Fi> before Jehovah for leader, and Zadok for priest.
23So Solomon was put on the seat of the Lord as king in place of his father David, and everything went well for him; and all Israel was under his authority.
23And Solomon sat on the throne of the Lord as king instead of David his father, and he pleased all: and all Israel obeyed him.
23And Solomon sitteth on the throne of Jehovah for king instead of David his father, and prospereth, and all Israel hearken unto him,
24And all the chiefs and the men of war and all the sons of King David put themselves under the authority of Solomon the king.
24And all the princes, and men of power, and all the sons of king David gave their hand, and were subject to Solomon the king.
24and all the heads, and the mighty men, and also all the sons of king David have given a hand under Solomon the king;
25And the Lord made Solomon great in the eyes of all Israel, clothing him with glory and honour such as no other king in Israel had had before him.
25And the Lord magnified Solomon over all Israel: and gave him the glory of a reign, such as no king of Israel had before him.
25and Jehovah maketh Solomon exceedingly great before the eyes of all Israel, and putteth upon him the honour of the kingdom that hath not been on any king over Israel before him.
26Now David, the son of Jesse, was king over all Israel.
26So David the son of Isai reigned over all Israel.
26And David son of Jesse hath reigned over all Israel,
27For forty years he was ruling as king over Israel, seven years in Hebron and thirty-three years in Jerusalem.
27And the days that he reigned over Israel, were forty years: in Hebron he reigned seven years, and in Jerusalem three and thirty years.
27and the days that he hath reigned over Israel <FI>are<Fi> forty years; in Hebron he reigned seven years, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three;
28And he came to his end after a long life, full of days and great wealth and honour; and Solomon his son became king in his place.
28And he died in a good age, full of days, and riches, and glory. And Solomon his son reigned in his stead.
28and he dieth in a good old age, satisfied with days, riches, and honour, and reign doth Solomon his son in his stead.
29Now all the acts of David, first and last, are recorded in the words of Samuel the seer, and the words of Nathan the prophet, and the words of Gad the seer;
29Now the acts of king David first and last are written in the book of Samuel the seer, and in the book of Nathan the prophet, and in the book of Gad the seer:
29And the matters of David the king, the first and the last, lo, they are written beside the matters of Samuel the seer, and beside the matters of Nathan the prophet, and beside the matters of Gad the seer,
30Together with all his rule and his power, and the events which took place in his time, in Israel and in all the kingdoms of other lands.
30And of all his reign, and his valour, and of the times that passed under him, either in Israel, or in all the kingdoms of the countries.
30with all his reign, and his might, and the times that went over him, and over Israel, and over all kingdoms of the lands.
