1And it came to pass, when David dwelt in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of Jehovah dwelleth under curtains.

1Now when David was dwelling in his house, he said to Nathan the prophet: Behold I dwell in a house of cedar: and the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under skins.

1Now when David was living in his house, he said to Nathan the prophet, See, I am living in a house of cedar-wood, but the ark of the Lord's agreement is under the curtains of a tent.

1And it cometh to pass as David sat in his house, that David saith unto Nathan the prophet, `Lo, I am dwelling in a house of cedars, and the ark of the covenant of Jehovah <FI>is<Fi> under curtains;'

2And Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thy heart; for God is with thee.

2And Nathan said to David: Do all that is in thy heart: for God is with thee.

2And Nathan said to David, Do whatever is in your heart, for God is with you.

2and Nathan saith unto David, `All that <FI>is<Fi> in thy heart do, for God <FI>is<Fi> with thee.'

3And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,

3Now that night the word of God came to Nathan, saying:

3But that same night, the word of God came to Nathan, saying,

3And it cometh to pass on that night that a word of God is unto Nathan, saying,

4Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith Jehovah, Thou shalt not build me a house to dwell in:

4Go, and speak to David my servant: Thus saith the Lord: Thou shalt not build me a house to dwell in.

4Go and say to David my servant, The Lord says, You are not to make me a house for my living-place:

4`Go, and thou hast said unto David My servant, Thus said Jehovah, Thou dost not build for Me the house to dwell in:

5for I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up Israel, unto this day, but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.

5For I have not remained in a house from the time that I brought up Israel, to this day: but I have been always changing places in a tabernacle, and in a tent,

5For from the day when I took Israel up, till this day, I have had no house, but have gone from tent to tent, and from living-place to living-place.

5for I have not dwelt in a house from the day that I brought up Israel till this day, and I am from tent unto tent: and from the tabernacle,

6In all places wherein I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to be shepherd of my people, saying, Why have ye not built me a house of cedar?

6Abiding with all Israel. Did I ever speak to any one, of all the judges of Israel whom I charged to feed my people, saying: Why have you not built me a house of cedar?

6In all the places where I have gone with all Israel, did I ever say to any of the judges of Israel, whom I made the keepers of my people, Why have you not made for me a house of cedar?

6whithersoever I have walked up and down among all Israel, a word spake I, with one of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed My people, saying, Why have ye not built for Me a house of cedars?

7Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be prince over my people Israel:

7Now therefore thus shalt thou say to my servant David: Thus saith the Lord of hosts: I took thee from the pastures, from following the flock, that thou shouldst be ruler of my people Israel.

7So now, say to my servant David, The Lord of armies says, I took you from the fields, from keeping sheep, so that you might be a ruler over my people Israel;

7`And now, thus dost thou say to My servant, to David, Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, I have taken thee from the habitation, from after the sheep, to be leader over My people Israel,

8and I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast gone, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee; and I will make thee a name, like unto the name of the great ones that are in the earth.

8And I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast gone: and have slain all thy enemies before thee, and have made thee a name like that of one of the great ones that are renowned in the earth.

8And I have been with you wherever you went, cutting off before you all those who were against you; and I will make your name like the name of the greatest ones of the earth.

8and I am with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and I cut off all thine enemies from thy presence, and have made for thee a name like the name of the great ones who <FI>are<Fi> in the earth.

9And I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the first,

9And I have given a place my people Israel: they shall be planted, and shall dwell therein, and shall be moved no more, neither shall the children of iniquity waste them, as at the beginning,

9And I will make a resting-place for my people Israel, planting them there, so that they may be in the place which is theirs and never again be moved; and never again will they be made waste by evil men, as they were at first,

9`And I have prepared a place for My people Israel, and planted it, and it hath dwelt in its place, and is not troubled any more, and the sons of perverseness add not to wear it out as at first,

10and as from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel; and I will subdue all thine enemies. Moreover I tell thee that Jehovah will build thee a house.

10Since the days that I gave judges to my people Israel, and have humbled all thy enemies. And I declare to thee, that the Lord will build thee a house.

10From the time when I put judges over my people Israel; and I will overcome all those who are against you; and I will make you great and the head of a line of kings.

10yea, even from the days that I appointed judges over My people Israel. `And I have humbled all thine enemies, and I declare to thee that a house doth Jehovah build for thee,

11And it shall come to pass, when thy days are fulfilled that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will set up thy seed after thee, who shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.

11And when thou shalt have ended thy days to go to thy fathers, I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons: and I will establish his kingdom.

11And when the time comes for you to go to your fathers, I will put in your place your seed after you, one of your sons, and I will make his kingdom strong.

11and it hath come to pass, when thy days have been fulfilled to go with thy fathers, that I have raised up thy seed after thee, who is of thy sons, and I have established his kingdom,

12He shall build me a house, and I will establish his throne for ever.

12He shall build me a house, and I will establish his throne for ever.

12He will be the builder of my house, and I will make the seat of his authority certain for ever.

12he doth build for Me a house, and I have established his throne unto the age;

13I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my lovingkindness away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee;

13I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee.

13I will be to him a father and he will be to me a son; and I will not take my mercy away from him as I took it from him who was before you;

13I am to him for a father, and he is to Me for a son, and My kindness I turn not aside from him as I turned it aside from him who was before thee,

14but I will settle him in my house and in my kingdom for ever; and his throne shall be established for ever.

14But I will settle him in my house, and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be most firm for ever.

14But I will make his place in my house and in my kingdom certain for ever; and the seat of his authority will never be overturned.

14and I have established him in My house, and in My kingdom unto the age, and his throne is established unto the age.'

15According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

15According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak to David.

15So Nathan gave David an account of all these words and this vision.

15According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so spake Nathan unto David.

16Then David the king went in, and sat before Jehovah; and he said, Who am I, O Jehovah God, and what is my house, that thou hast brought me thus far?

16And king David came and sat before the Lord, and said: Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house, that thou shouldst give such things to me?

16Then David the king went in and took his seat before the Lord, and said, Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my family, that you have been my guide till now?

16And David the king cometh in and sitteth before Jehovah, and saith, `Who <FI>am<Fi> I, O Jehovah God, and what my house, that Thou hast brought me hitherto?

17And this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; but thou hast spoken of thy servant’s house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O Jehovah God.

17But even this hath seemed little in thy sight, and therefore thou hast also spoken concerning the house of thy servant for the time to come: and hast made me remarkable above all men, O Lord God.

17And this was only a small thing to you, O God; but your words have even been about the far-off future of your servant's family, looking on me as on one of high position, O Lord God.

17And this is small in Thine eyes, O God, and Thou speakest concerning the house of thy servant afar off, and hast seen me as a type of the man who is on high, O Jehovah God!

18What can David say yet more unto thee concerning the honor which is done to thy servant? for thou knowest thy servant.

18What can David add more, seeing thou hast thus glorified thy servant, and known him?

18What more may David say to you? for you have knowledge of your servant.

18`What doth David add more unto Thee for the honour of Thy servant; and Thou Thy servant hast known.

19O Jehovah, for thy servant’s sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou wrought all this greatness, to make known all these great things.

19O Lord, for thy servant's sake, according to thy own heart, thou hast shewn all this magnificence, and wouldst have all the great things to be known.

19O Lord, because of your servant, and from your heart, you have done all these great things and let them be seen.

19O Jehovah, for Thy servant's sake, and according to Thine own heart Thou hast done all this greatness, to make known all these great things.

20O Jehovah, there is none like thee, neither is there any God besides thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

20O Lord there is none like thee: and here is no other God beside thee, of all whom we have heard of with our ears.

20O Lord, there is no one like you, and no other God but you, as is clear from everything which has come to our ears.

20O Jehovah, there is none like Thee, and there is no god save Thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

21And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem unto himself for a people, to make thee a name by great and terrible things, in driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou redeemedst out of Egypt?

21For what other nation is there upon earth like thy people Israel, whom God went to deliver, and make a people for himself, and by his greatness and terrors cast out nations before their face whom he had delivered out of Egypt?

21And what other nation in the earth, like your people Israel, did a god go out to take for himself, to be his people, making his name great and to be feared, driving out the nations from before your people whom you made free and took out of Egypt?

21`And who <FI>is<Fi> as Thy people Israel, one nation in the earth whom God hath gone to ransom to Him for a people, to make for Thee a name great and fearful, to cast out from the presence of Thy people whom Thou hast ransomed out of Egypt--nations?

22For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, Jehovah, becamest their God.

22And thou hast made thy people Israel to be thy own people for ever, and thou, O Lord, art become their God.

22For your people Israel you made yours for ever; and you, Lord, became their God.

22Yea, Thou dost appoint Thy people Israel to Thee for a people unto the age, and Thou, O Jehovah, hast been to them for God.

23And now, O Jehovah, let the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant, and concerning his house, be established for ever, and do as thou hast spoken.

23Now therefore, O Lord, let the word which thou hast spoken to thy servant, and concerning his house, be established for ever, and do as thou hast said.

23And now, Lord, let your words about your servant and about his family be made certain for ever, and do as you have said.

23`And now, O Jehovah, the word that Thou hast spoken concerning Thy servant, and concerning his house, let be stedfast unto the age, and do as Thou hast spoken;

24And let thy name be established and magnified for ever, saying, Jehovah of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and the house of David thy servant is established before thee.

24And let thy name remain and be magnified for ever: and let it be said: The Lord of hosts is God of Israel, and the house of David his servant remaineth before him.

24So let your words be made certain and your name be made great, when men say, The Lord of armies is the God of Israel; and when the family of David your servant is made strong before you.

24and let it be stedfast, and Thy name is great unto the age, saying, Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, is God to Israel, and the house of Thy servant David is established before Thee;

25For thou, O my God, hast revealed to thy servant that thou wilt build him a house: therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray before thee.

25For thou, O Lord my God, hast revealed to the ear of thy servant, that thou wilt build him a house: and therefore thy servant hath found confidence to pray before thee.

25For you, O my God, have let your servant see that you will make him head of a line of kings; and so it has come into your servant's heart to make his prayer to you.

25for Thou, O my God, Thou hast uncovered the ear of Thy servant--to build to him a house, therefore hath Thy servant found to pray before Thee.

26And now, O Jehovah, thou art God, and hast promised this good thing unto thy servant:

26And now O Lord, thou art God: and thou hast promised to thy servant such great benefits.

26And now, O Lord, you are God, and you have said you will give this good thing to your servant:

26`And now, Jehovah, Thou <FI>art<Fi> God Himself, and Thou speakest concerning Thy servant this goodness;

27and now it hath pleased thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee: for thou, O Jehovah, hast blessed, and it is blessed for ever.

27And thou hast begun to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be always before thee: for seeing thou blessest it, O Lord, it shall be blessed for ever.

27And now you have been pleased to give your blessing to the family of your servant, so that it may go on for ever before you; you, O Lord, have given your blessing, and a blessing will be on it for ever.

27and now, Thou hast been pleased to bless the house of Thy servant, to be to the age before Thee; for Thou, O Jehovah, hast blessed, and it is blessed to the age.'
