1And the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep.

1Then the angel who had been talking with me returned and woke me up, like someone being woken from a deep sleep.

2And he said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have seen, and, behold, a candlestick all of gold, with its bowl upon the top of it, and its seven lamps thereon; there are seven pipes to each of the lamps, which are upon the top thereof;

2He asked me, 'What do you see?' I answered, 'I see a solid gold lampstand with a bowl at the top. On the lampstand are seven lamps, and there are seven pipes leading to each of the lamps.'

3and two olive-trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof.

3'I also see two olive trees beside it, one on the right side of the bowl and the other on its left.'

4And I answered and spake to the angel that talked with me, saying, What are these, my lord?

4I asked the angel who was talking with me, 'What are these things, my lord?'

5Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these are? And I said, No, my lord.

5The angel answered, 'Don't you know what these are?' I replied, 'No, my lord.'

6Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of Jehovah unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith Jehovah of hosts.

6Then he said to me, 'This is the message from the LORD to Zerubbabel: Not by physical force or by human power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies.'

7Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain; and he shall bring forth the top stone with shoutings of Grace, grace, unto it.

7'What are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become flat ground. Then he will bring out the final capstone while the people shout, "God bless it! God bless it!"'

8Moreover the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

8The word of the LORD came to me again:

9The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that Jehovah of hosts hath sent me unto you.

9'Zerubbabel’s hands have laid the foundation of this Temple, and his hands will also complete it. Then you will know that the LORD of Heaven’s Armies has sent me to you.'

10For who hath despised the day of small things? for these seven shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel; these are the eyes of Jehovah, which run to and fro through the whole earth.

10'Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand. These seven lamps represent the eyes of the LORD, which search throughout the entire earth.'

11Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive-trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof?

11Then I asked him, 'What are these two olive trees on the right and left sides of the lampstand?'

12And I answered the second time, and said unto him, What are these two olive-branches, which are beside the two golden spouts, that empty the golden oil out of themselves?

12I asked him again, 'What are these two olive branches beside the two gold pipes that pour out the golden oil?'

13And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these are? And I said, No, my lord.

13He replied, 'Don't you know what these are?' I said, 'No, my lord.'

14Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.

14So he said, 'These represent the two anointed ones who stand beside the Lord of all the earth.'
